hey guys ..i have a silly question...what should I answer if the interviewer ask me when we were engaged?..well, my fiance and I have never been officially engaged, i mean we didn't have engagement party or anything like that, or a ring...( when i sensed that he wanted to buy me a ring I told him not to give me one,we'll just save the money. he didn't liked the idea but i have the power over our finances B) ) ..we've been together for 8 years..and ever since we just knew we were gonna get married someday..

I know it's nonsense but any idea how should I answer if ever the consul ask me when was our engagement? Pardon me, but we waited for this for so long and I don't want to spoil it. I just dont want to sit(or stand) there on my interview and look at the ceiling thinking how to answer a simple question.

thanks

Just pick a date, one you both agree to!

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

Just say what you said there. That's similar to what I'm going to say if asked. We never officially got engaged, we just knew we wanted to be together and that fact that he asked me to move to the US and give up everything I have here was more of a big deal than getting a ring on my finger.

hmmm.. i don't remember if the interviewer actually asked us that question.. I know he asked us WHEN we were going to get married..they know there is intent based on the paperwork that is filed..

But you must have at some point talked about GETTING married.. and the terms of that.. when you go for the paperwork, when you would marry etc. Just reference those details.. that's when we realized we wanted to be together blah blah blah.. you know..

pick the date you decided to start the K1 paperwork.

Parties are parties, rings are rings, they're not "engagement". They are niceties that not everyone in the world adheres to when it comes to getting married. And they're not a prerequisite to getting a fiancee visa.

divorced - April 2010 moved back to Ontario May 2010 and surrendered green card

PLEASE DO NOT PRIVATE MESSAGE ME OR EMAIL ME. I HAVE NO IDEA ABOUT CURRENT US IMMIGRATION PROCEDURES!!!!!

You guys are all right....I'll just say what i said..my fiance told me we'd just pick a date, and I didn't think it's a good idea. But when Flames9 and Reba told me the same thing, it's sound right and I trusted the idea than when my fiance told me the same thing. It's funny, that means I listen and trust VJ members more than my fiance..LOL..

Thank you all guys

I do remember the interviewer asking me when he proposed, I was prepared for the question but we never officially got "engaged" in fact I don't even have a ring! We got married before the engagement! Glen is planning on buying me a ring, but we got married as soon as I moved here and are having our "real" wedding in Sept. 2010. By then I will have a ring and all that stuff, but the engagement never really happened! I tell everyone we're doing it backwards, marriage first then getting engaged! LOL

P.S. there is no such thing as a silly question here on VJ!!

This what we are doing as well.

I totally agree; tell them what you told us.

If they had asked (and they didn't), I would have told them he never officially proposed, but that we knew that getting married was a matter of when not if and him needing to go to Texas for school just solidified the timeline for us.

They'll want to know when the wedding will be. I told my interviewer that we planned to get married over in NM as soon as possible, once I received my visa and made moving arrangements.
