So yeah I'm getting married in the afternoon to the love of my life (aren't we all aiming for that? :D), but the problem is, I'm not sure how to proceed from here. So I get my marriage certificate from the records office....

... then what?

So confused... help....?

Did pushbrk just give useless advice?!? Seriously, I don't think the VJ guides cover how to actually get married, just all the stuff around it like SSN, AOS, etc...

OP: Do a search for marriage requirements (your state) on google, that should get you started, once you have the marriage license itself though you probably just need to find a justice of the peace, or a minister/priest/etc who can legally marry you, I'd imagine if you contacted the court that gave you the marriage license they can point you in the right direction since it's really specific to your state.

Congratulations  We took Claudeth's birth certificate and passport with us to the courthouse. We had a civil ceremony right then and there.

I think the OP has the marriage stuff covered (since it is happening today) and was referring to the next step in the immigration process.... of which, the guides will be a help...

YMMV

Well see that's the thing. I'm a little confused about the guides. Like how the USCIS is gonna know if I'm married or not?

The official Marriage Certificate (not to be confused with the license) that you will receive from the governmental agency that officially records this information in your locale, is what you provide to the USCIS to demonstrate your marital status.

We ordered several certificates. These were created and registered at the county recorders office and then mailed to us.

excellent idea - at least 2-3 are needed, especially if one is going to utilize ap to travel.

Sorry for the curt replies earlier, I'm just seriously stressed, because I just found out that the filing fees for the I-485 are bloody US930. I found out that applying for an SSN is free, but that's hardly any comfort at this moment. WHY MUST THEY MAKE ALL THIS SO EXPENSIVE?!

Anyway, while filling out the I-485, they ask for family name. Do I give my maiden name or the name I take on as my husband's wife? Also; "List your present husband/wife, all of your sons and daughters" <-- do I actually put his name down, even though he is the USC? And then there's "Address- C/O". Huh??

I don't even know what the A# is. I remember that I didn't have to fill it out while filing for the K-1, but what about now?

I'm so stressed right now it's not even funny.
