I find it very surprising that no one can sympathise with the OP's frustration.

I hear ya, Tom.

I'm with you. It is frustrating.

"The fact that we are here today to debate raising America’s debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the U.S. Government can’t pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government’s reckless fiscal policies."

I am so sick to death of everyone thinking a fetus should fast track a visa app

The same thing happpened in ireland not so long ago.The government finally said enough is enough as we had women from africa/eastern europe flying to ireland heavely pregnant and then trying to claim asylum when they had the baby in ireland at the tax payers expense.

It got so bad that half the babies born in ireland were non EU.

Its a sad world when you do something illegal and get rewarded and then you do something the right and legal way and your are put in a queue like the rest of us.

Nothing is going to be done to resolve this as the US government are too weak.

Even in my own sitution i tried to get a drivers permit last week, i was told i need a greencard.Yet in the area i live in i see countless illegals driving to their hearts content.

And this is not even an argument. You are welcome to drive illegally as well. Also, I'd bet that if you looked carefully at the requirements for your state that you do NOT need a green card to get a DL. You simply need to comply with the Real ID Act.

Your assertion that the US gov't is "too weak" makes no sense either. It sounds like your complaints are because it is too strong!

I do agree that this is a problem beyond what we see & may have been "allowed" to happen, but the way we individually deal with it is up to us. I've lived in other countries with "weird" (to me) rules; I simply learned how to work within that framework.

I recommend the same for everyone here. It is what it is, may as well work with that instead of wishing for something else. OTOH, if you are interested in participating in the gov't of your new country to make changes, go for it! But there are rules for doing that, too. :)

The consequences would be astounding....hey, fast track your visa, get your woman preggo....well guess what? so many ppl would be doing that that it would essentially start the same queue again & there'd be no 'fast track'. If one doesn't want one's child being born overseas, don't get pregnant. Yes, it's easier said than done....but no one of us is more special than the other...and a preggo woman shouldn't be the golden ticket in.

Yes, it sucks that illegals are being essentially rewarded, but at the end of the day, it is what it is. Life isn't fair, suck it up. (that in no way was meant towards anyone in partucular, just a general statement)

I'd like to see the ruling that the U.S. Government passed about the illegal immigrants. Does anyone have the document that they signed into law, the exact specifics? It would be interesting reading.

Also, now that amnesty has been given to them does this make them U.S. citizens? Think about it ladies and gentlement, if they are now "legal U.S. citizens" I believe that the minimum wage law now kicks in for them, if I'm not mistaken. Now I ask, how many of the now legal immigrants are getting minimum wage and how can their employers afford to pay that when they couldn't afford that for the U.S. citizens that were here or came here legally through they system?

Thanks.

I would bet my hat that the reshuffling of cases from TSC to CSC etc etc has something to do with preparing for this additional workload of legalizing those who illegally cut the line.

You'd lose your hat, then. :)

This sort of reshuffling happens all the time, for various reasons. SEriously, a little context would help. Read any random post from any year at the group alt.visa.us.marriage-based and you can find some crisis happeneing at any time, any year. Believe me when I tell you that people who did this in 03/04 would have LOVED to have the "delays" that you all have now.

Chin up! It ends quicker than you think. :)

I don't see how this applies to pregnant beneficiaries of the petition, and I kinda think we're talking about two different things here.

I am not familiar with the developments with the illegal immigrant situation, so I can't really comment. But I think that once illegals are deemed legal, their value in the workforce, unfortunately will have vanished.

Maybe you should have worn a condom then you baby mama would not be having a baby 'over there'.

I don't think that comment was called for. How does anyone know how long the visa process will take? So you're asking Tom to put his life on hold in the hopes that his visa will come through soon? I'm 43, my fiancee (wife) is 39, we would love to have a child before we get to the age where we cannot. While I was in China I would have loved to have started our family but knowing that I probably could not be with her during the delivery I didn't want to chance it.

Bravo! Give this man a dollar! Ironically, that was cristy's point...

When i say weak i mean they still havent solved the problem off illigal immigrants. Hopefully the immigration bill will help.

I rang the DMV in concord,NH and they said i needed an EAD card or greencard before i can apply for my drivers permit.I have never driven before so i am starting from scratch. How do you explain that one.The ID act doesnt come into affect until 2008 so i doubt very much the dmv in concord know about it.

Keith,

There has been NO bill passed yet, House & Senate are still yapping over their own versions of something.

There is NO amnesty given, or being given (this time, yet). No matter what concession is made for the illegals here, NO ONE becomes a US citizen automagically. Proposed bills that would give people a *chance* to become Permanent Residents are in discussion, and the PR status would not be automatic, but it would give people who are in the US as EWI/Entered Without Inspection a *chance* to legalize w/out leaving the country. Right now, any EWI *must* leave the US to become legal.

Once anyone is a PR, they can go through the usual process to naturalize (5 years residency + other terms).

Amazingly, after the last 'amnesty' in the 80s, very few of the people who legalized their status applied for naturalization. Foolish them, IMO.

Please don't beleive everything you read.hear. There are a lot of buzzwords and inaccurate descriptions being thrown around by people on both sides of the argument.

galawayman,

Don't hold your breath on the immigration bill's results. ;) See my post above.

As for the DMV, an EAD is different (and more quickly attained) than a green card, so that makes a big difference in your point.

When you're learning to drive, typically someone takes you to a parking lot (car park) or field and teaches you. Or, you go to a drving school. I never had a permit when I was learning to drive, but I also did not drive on the streets.

Most states have now implemented the Real ID Act guides into their policies, so that they comply on time. I'm aware of it because my state is one of the last to comply and we've had a huge black market here in driver's licenses being issued for people who don't live in Oregon, but can't comply w/Real ID in their own state. Once you have a license from one state, you pretty much don't have to prove suqat to anyone regarding your status. Maybe you should come here and get a license!

Seriously tho, one thing that hangs a lot of UKers up (don't know what the rules are for you) is that the DL test in the UK is *musch* harder than it is here. Every Brit I've heard on the topic, including my hub, thinks our DL testing is a joke. So, study the manual, go make a few spins around the Walmart lot after hours and you'll probably surprise yourself. :)

Good luck!
