Our Timeline:

I 765 (in AOS Packet) Rec'd in Chicago: 10/30/08

NOA 1 Dated 11/5/08

No Biometric Appointment Notice Rec'd to Date

No RFE Rec'd to date

01/02/09 Rec'd Email indicating Travel Document has been approved and notice is forthcoming..

In reading the NOA1 of 11/5/08 for the EAD it says "The next step is to have your biometrics taken, IF REQUIRED, at a USCIS Application Support Center.

Questions:

1) Who isn't required??? People who have it done at the POE??? Anyone else??? (He didn't have it done at JFK - POE)

2) Can you get it done by any other method than their "scheduled appointment"??? Can you request it from the local USCIS (or would that even do any good)?

3) How can they approve the Travel Document without it? Possible to get the EAD without it???

4) Any point in scheduling an Info Pass Appt?

Never thought I'd see the day I was dying to have my husband's fingerprints and photo taken by the Government!

Thanks for any insight on this anyone can share... Going slowly stir crazy...

Just as jb_vj said you have to get your biometrics done. All they do in the appointment is take a picture of you and take fingerprints from you to send to the FBI. Its just an FBI background check on you to see if you have a criminal background from your home country etc etc. An biometrics letter has to be sent to you in order to possibily do a walk in and some situations you may be able to get away with doing a walk in if they arent busy, so its 50/50, when you do get your appointment is to go on your scheduled day to save you the trouble. You can't get your EAD without your biometrics done.
