Timeline

I-130 with or without 129f…does it really make a difference? According to the USCIS processing times (for California) it takes about 6 months for both I-130 and I-129f, what has everyone’s experience been?

USCIS

12-19-2008 : Marriage

01-10-2009 : I-130 Sent

01-16-2009 : I-130 NOA1

03-13-2009 : I-130 NOA2 Approved!

NVC

03-20-2009 : NVC # recieved

04-14-2009 : Instruction Packet recieved

04-29-2009 : NVC Case complete

05-26-2009 : Medical Complete

06-10-2009 : Interview- visa approved!

06-xx-2009 : Passport recieved

depends on if you want the flexibility of a K-3 or not

But if the I 129 f and CR1 get approved at the same time, is the NVC time the same?Going fwd from there, which one would be faster?

It is said I-129F (K-3) takes less time than I-130 (CR1).. Our CR1 took 9 months to be approved. I recommend you to fill out I-129F too and send it to the USCIS. It is free because you already paid for I-130.. You can decide later which one you will continue with after getting approvals.. Good luck!

My impression is that the six months for the I-130 is reset to begin the day the I-129F arrives, so filing the I-129F slows the processing of the I-130 by putting it back on the bottom of the waiting stack. This began being the normal procedure in November, 2006.

Facts are cheap...knowing how to use them is precious...
