Some of those quotes where so good I had to copy and paste them for future use.... I hope they are accurate.

The more I know about ANN, the more I like her; although I admit, I have only read one of her books.

(I bought it for my daughter and read it after she did)

What is funny is how liberals are usually so skillful at discerning when something is said in an exaggerated manor for effect. (to the torment of the Right-wing)

With Ann, she uses the absurd or extreme to make a valid point.

Actually, one of the Reasons she is, so popular is because Conservatives are routinely polite and boring, with the exception of Russ and Buchanan.

Danno I listed numerous quotes by Coulter & this is your response? You offer absolutely no defense at all for what Coulter said & you are once again playing the liberal card (that's all you got & you look really silly pulling it... the fact that I'm not even a liberal just makes it even more ridiculous). Coulter is full of ignorance & hate and you are full of denial & avoidance (and apparently plenty of ignorance & hate as well).

Here's a hint... the hatred, ignorance, bias & bigotry that Coulter spouts isn't "dry humor" & it isn't funny... it's hatred, ignorance, bias & bigotry. She's shown her true colors & so have you.

When people have an opinion which is contrary to yours, it is "ignorance" and "bigotry".

Lets go through some of her brilliant points and try to place context around them.

"My only regret with Timothy McVeigh is he did not go to the New York Times Building."

-- Ann Coulter to George Gurley, New York Observer, August 21, 2002

An obvious swipe at the NYT news paper, you can't believe she was being literal.

On Islamic extremists: "We should invade their countries, kill their leaders and convert them to Christianity."

-- Ann Coulter, National Review Online, September 2001

Note the date! she is highlighting the difference between how wars used to be won and how we "nationabuild now (which usually ends up with our guys dead and our enemies back in power)

"God gave us the earth. We have dominion over the plants, the animals, the trees. God said, 'Earth is yours. Take it. Rape it! It's yours.'"

-- Ann Coulter, Hannity & Colmes,June 20, 2001

This obviously is a slam against the "earth-first" crowd whose sole interest is to stop any development of natural resources.

"I think [women] should be armed but should not [be allowed to] vote. No, they all have to give up their vote, not just, you know, the lady clapping and me. The problem with women voting -- and your Communists will back me up on this -- is that, you know, women have no capacity to understand how money is earned. They have a lot of ideas on how to spend it. And when they take these polls, it's always more money on education, more money on child care, more money on day care."

-- Ann Coulter, Politically Incorrect, Feb. 26, 2001

I note this was made on Bill's talkshow, certainly a place for serious political proposals.

Again She highlights the tendency of female voters to embrace a socialist platform much more than men. Is she really suggesting a repeal of voting rights for women? Unfortunately not :crying:

"[The] backbone of the Democratic Party [is a] typical fat, implacable welfare recipient"

-- Ann Coulter, syndicated column, October 29, 1999

Obviously here, she based this observations from looking at trends... yet spoke a little premature

To a disabled Vietnam vet: "People like you caused us to lose that war."

-- Ann Coulter, MSNBC

There were a number of "Vets" who came back and gave false testimony to give creed. to the Anti war groups, (in fact John Kerry clearly fell for some by his testimony to congress back in the day.) Being a Vet (which I am) does not entitle you to kid-gloves treatment once you wade into the political arena. Many people believe These people and others did work for ends contrary to our national interest. Ann is not alone in this conclusion, she is just brave enough to say it.. to ANYONE who engages in the conversation.

"The swing voters? I like to refer to them as the idiot voters because they don't have set philosophical principles. You're either a liberal or you're a conservative if you have an IQ above a toaster. "

-- Ann Coulter, Beyond the News, FOX News Channel

It would seem like People left and Right would have to agree with this, I know I do.

I could find more quotes, but I need to get some work done. I'm sure you right wingers will refer to Coulter's ridiculous comments as being "dry humor" or just flat out agree with them, but as far as I'm concerned her statements are full of hate & ignorance. She has also made some really stupid/hateful comments about liberals, but I know I'm talking to a wall on that topic with a lot of you so I won't bother listing them.

The only "hate she seems to have is for "left-wing" ideology, because of the harm it has brought to so much of our country and its people ...(usually those it claims to want to help). As I said before; I suggest you develop your sense of humor as most of her points are made with "cut to the bone" style humor.

QUOTE (Danno @ Jan 13 2009, 11:07 AM)

It's interesting how just a very few people can gain so much attention by merely doing outlandish things.

We see this in this case as well as "artists" who have little talent beyond shock, and others who shtick is working the race angle.

This is the result of "visual" media. Visual media thrives not so much on meaningful stories but on captivating photos or video.

That quote of course is from your thread on protests at military funerals... I find it to be completely relevant to Coulter's views. She makes exaggerated, outrageous statements that are often full of falsehoods to get a reaction. You obviously condone this behavior (well at least with Coulter; apparently you are against it if people with other viewpoints do the same thing). I find Coulter's antics offensive and counter-productive to getting at the truth of the matter in question. We need to simply agree to disagree here, as I have seen plenty of evidence that Coulter is a hateful & ignorant person.

She doesn't add anything to political debates, I think that's the point. She's an entertainment figure, rather than a serious political commentator - in which respect she gets way more attention than she really merits.

If we didn't have this cartoonish partisan divide, MS. Coulter would be out of a job - as there would be no call for her brand of lame finger-pointing. At the least her commentary are very superficial.

Not to defend Coulter, but I think the problem you describe is among many commentators in both parties.

Of course it is - barring a couple of small outlets/programs the media's entire approach to political issues is juvenile. Coulter is one of the most prominent examples of that.

this is enlightening. Huckabee takes the piss out of Ann for her sloppy "journalism" on him and she doesn't even care:

As one who has a great sense of humor, that chick did a lame impersonation.

She didn't even have one physical mimic of her down... such as the constant running her hand through her hair and the way she often sits sideways with her head cocked. Anns hair is also parted off to one side a little.

so much lost opportunity

Ann does and says outlandish things (what satirist doesn't) but she doesn't Merely do that.

She presents a unique point which apparently a lot of people find interesting as her opinion-piece is carried by a lot of papers her Books are on the best sellers list and her face is constantly a guest on TV to give her take on things.

On this we do agree, she "does act hateful" toward Liberals (really who can blame her?)

But this claim of "ignorant", is laughable are you aware of her Education and Professional background?

A succubus.

No, too sexy

To discuss the mudslide in who-ville today, we have democratic strategist Mr. So-and-So, Former adviser to Reagan Mr whats-his-name, and NYT article writer Joe Shmoe...

Mr so-and-so: This is a crime against our nation, Bush knew this would happen, he probably wanted it to happen! Republicans better fix this mudslide or let me guess, they will leave everyone stranded just like in Katrina.

Mr whats-his-name: If the democrats stopped promoting evil plans, there would be no mudslides. they were probably making pot fields north of who-ville, which made too much irrigation water run down the hill and cause this.

Joe Shmoe-I agree with Mr. so-and-so, hate those republicans...you democrats suck too.

 welcome to the world of mass media!

Satirist? Hardly. Satire is the employment of intelligent wit, irony, and sarcasm. For it to be satire, all three thematic elements must be present. She is NOT a satirist.

Oscar Wilde? Satirist.

Jonathan Swift? Satirist.

Jon Stewart? Satirist.

Tina Fey? Satirist.

Ann Coulter? Hardly. Hateful and sarcastic do not make one intelligently witty or ironic...the other 2 required elements.

It is a fallacy that someone who is educated cannot also be ignorant. Coulter takes her hatred of "liberals" to cartoonish proportions, which translates to ignorance as far as I'm concerned. Do you realize that only about 20% of Americans are liberals? About 41% are Conservative and 39% are Moderates. Now I know you will challenge these numbers & since they represent numbers I found by using google they may be off a bit.

My beef with Coulter is that her views are based largely on exaggeration, half-truths & stereotypes. Call me crazy but I find that to be counter-productive to finding facts & solutions. I also find it highly offensive (being a moderate) that she labels anyone who isn't far right a liberal (and if liberal is such a dirty word why doesn't the term "right wing" also have such a negative connotation?) . Coulter is every bit as bad as people like Michael Moore, just on the other end of the spectrum.

MORE BOOS THAN BALLS

It will not be easy for President B. Hussein Obama. More than half the country voted for him, and yet our newspapers are brimming with snippy remarks at every little aspect of his inauguration.

Here's a small sampling of the churlishness in just The New York Times:

-- The American public is bemused by the tasteless show-biz extravaganza surrounding Barack Obama's inauguration today.

There is something to be said for some showiness in an inauguration. But one felt discomfited all the same.

This is an inauguration, not a coronation.

Is there a parallel between Mrs. Obama's jewel-toned outfit and somebody else's glass slippers? Why limousines and not shank's mare?

It is still unclear whether we are supposed to shout "Whoopee!" or "Shame!" about the new elegance the Obamas are bringing to Washington.

Boy, talk about raining on somebody's parade! These were not, of course, comments about the inauguration of the angel Obama; they are (slightly edited) comments about the inauguration of another historic president, Ronald Reagan, in January 1981.

Obama's inaugural address tracked much of Reagan's first inaugural address -- minus the substance -- the main difference being that Obama did not invoke God as stoutly or frequently, restricting his heavenly references to a few liberal focus-grouped phrases, such as "God-given" and "God's grace."

Obama was also not as fulsome in his praise of his predecessor as Reagan was. To appreciate how remarkable this is, recall that Reagan's predecessor was Jimmy Carter.

Under Carter, more than 50 Americans were held hostage by a two-bit terrorist Iranian regime for 444 days -- released the day of Reagan's inauguration. Under Bush, there has not been another terrorist attack since Sept. 11, 2001.

But I gather that if Obama had uttered anything more than the briefest allusion to Bush, that would have provoked yet more booing from the Hope-and-Change crowd, which moments earlier had showered Bush with boos when he walked onto the stage. That must be the new tone we've been hearing so much about.

So maybe liberals can stop acting as if the entire nation could at last come together in a "unity of purpose" if only conservatives would stop fomenting "conflict and discord" -- as Obama suggested in his inaugural address. We're not the ones who booed a departing president.

It is a liberal trope to insult conservatives by asking them meaningless questions, such as the one repeatedly asked of Bush throughout his presidency about whether he had made any mistakes. All humans make mistakes -- what is the point of that question other than to give insult?

When will the first reporter ask President Obama to admit that he has made mistakes? Try: Never.

No, that question will disappear for the next four years. It will be replaced by the new question for conservatives on every liberal's lips these days: Do you want Obama to succeed as president?

Answer: Of course we do. We live here, too.

But merely to ask the question is to imply that the 60 million Americans who did not vote for Obama are being unpatriotic if they do not wholeheartedly endorse his liberal agenda.

I guess it depends on the meaning of "succeed." If Obama "succeeds" in pushing through big-government, terrorist-appeasing policies, he will not have "succeeded" at being a good president. If we didn't think conservative principles of small government and strong national defense weren't better for the country, we wouldn't be conservatives.

And why was that question never asked of liberals producing assassination books and movies about President Bush for the last eight years?

Say, did liberals want Pastor Rick Warren to succeed delivering a meaningful invocation at the inaugural?

The way I remember it, the Hope-and-Change crowd viciously denounced the Christian pastor, stamped their feet and demanded that Obama withdraw the invitation -- all because Rick Warren agrees with Obama's stated position on gay marriage, which also happens to be the position of a vast majority of Americans every time they have been allowed to vote on the matter.

Liberals always have to play the victim, acting as if they merely want to bring the nation together in hope and unity in the face of petulant, stick-in-the-mud conservatives. Meanwhile, they are the ones booing, heckling and publicly fantasizing about the assassination of those who disagree with them on policy matters.

Hope and unity, apparently, can only be achieved if conservatives would just go away -- and perhaps have the decency to kill themselves.

Republicans are not the ones who need to be told that "the time has come to set aside childish things" -- as Obama said of his own assumption of the presidency. Remember? We're the ones who managed to gaze upon Carter at the conclusion of his abomination of a presidency without booing.

Yeah - satire is very hard to do well.
