My dad is in USA and recieved his green card recently. His return ticket is for next month Feb 5th and I have 2 questions:

1: How long can he stay outside of USA with his green card? ( I've heard less than one year, so 10 months is oK?)

2: I was thinking about re-entry permit but I don't know if one month is nough time to get finger prnted an etc...

he has a ticket for next month, I am so confused.

Do you know if it can be one in a month or less?

Thanks

To maintain his LPR he should try not to be out of the US for more than 6 months, if he has to be outside the US for more than 6 months make sure he maintains his US residence and bank accounts and files his taxes.

Maintaining Permanent Residence

Maintaining Permanent Residence You may lose your permanent residence status if you commit an act that makes you removable from the United States under the law in section 237 of the Immigration and Nationality Act. If you commit such an act, you may be brought before the immigration courts to determine your right to remain a Permanent Resident.

You may be found to have abandoned your permanent resident status if you:

  • Move to another country intending to live there permanently.
  • Remain outside of the US for more than one year without obtaining a reentry permit or returning resident visa. However in determining whether your status has been abandoned any length of absence from the US may be considered, even if it is less than one year.
  • Remain outside of the US for more than two years after issuance of a reentry permit without obtaining a returning resident visa. However in determining whether your status has been abandoned any length of absence from the US may be considered, even if it is less than one year.
  • Fail to file income tax returns while living outside of the US for any period.
  • Declare yourself a “nonimmigrant” on your tax returns.

To avoid any problem, his return to the US should be no later than six months from the date he left the country. Anything else can just lead to a mess for him.
