I have seen in the general guide that the copy of the marriage certificate submitted with AOS is to be a certified copy...is that true? So if you will send just regular copy then you will get REF? Ok. in that case my real question is ...How do one obtain a certified copy? Does it calls for a trip to city hall, again? Thanks in advance...

yes, they issue them.

Mine was $10 per copy, I ordered 4, I ordered tham by mail.

You can also go to the notary and he would also issue you a certified copy

but it's good to have like 2-4 of them

October 30, 2005 - Married in Vegas

December 27, 2005 - EAD, AP, AOS mailed

January 4, 2006 - received in Chicago

January 27, 2006 - RFE for medical received

February 13, 2006 - Medical received

February 15, 2006 - Biometrics appointment at 10 am

March 1, 2006 - AP touched

March 4, 2006 - AP received

March 8, 2006 - EAD received

March 29, 2006 - interview notice received - May 31, 2006

May 31, 2006 - Successful interview!!! Approved

June 12, 2006 - Green card received

Feb 28, 2008 - will be sending removal of conditions docs.

Yes Dorothy, you can get CErtified Copies at your City Hall, where marriage took place. I got 2 certified copies, just in case. And as for me and my wife, I just filed a COPY of the Certified Marriage License from City Hall. I also filed ALL COPIES of originals with her K-1 and it didn't cause any problems.

Being organized, complete and professional in your filing is very helpful, as you probably know by now.

The 'guide' is wrong. Read the I-485 instruction. You just need a regular photo-copy. Bring the certified copy to the interview. The 'certified' copy for the interview is just the official cert you should have already with the official seal and all.

Thank you all for your impute...I read the I-485 instructions and did not see anything about certified copy so wanted to check with the general consensus here... :thumbs: thank you all for your advice...I feel better now and just can't wait to send my package in...
