A 31-stone (434lbs!) German man was saved by his pub pals when he was stranded for a week after breaking a leg falling out of bed.

Ulrich Beike was too heavy to pull himself off the floor and lay there helpless for seven days, unable to even reach the phone.

But regulars at his local in Mannheim, Germany, realised he hadn't turned up for their usual weekly drinking binge and went to his flat to find him.

"They heard some weak cries for help and broke down the door and called the paramedics," said a police spokesman.

"The good news is that he's recovering - and lost five kilos while he was stuck there without any food."
