I knew I was going to marry Marisol after about the 3rd email but we wrote for several months and then I went to peru to visit her to be more sure of the situation. We already knew at the time we would most likely be getting married. In Peru it is the custom that he man ask the father before formaly asking the woman although she already knew it was happening. I had it all planned out until we were all seated at the breakfast table with her family and her father said, I hear you have some thing to say.

Well my now father inlaw only spoke cechua (? spelling) untill he was twenty something so I dont understand his spanish vey well and now I had to have a long conversation with the entire family. I asked him for his daughters hand in marraige and he gave me some of the best advise I think I have ever heard.

At this point I still hadnt asked my future wife to be my wife so we went t a nice restaurant in the town of Arequipa where she lives. We previously looked at wedding rings on Zales web site( the internet is a great thing for that) she had chosen a ring but it was in her words way too expensive. In my mind it wasnt all that much especially for some one I really loved. I gave her the ring and she just stared at it and didnt say a word. I knew what the answer would be but I think the ring really took her off guard. By the way she doesnt wear it in peru.

I just got back from Peru 2 adys ago. The trip was hell, being with my wife heaven. DANG !!! I love that woman

Haha. I know what you mean about the local traditions going somewhat loco. I was so nervous when I asked Melody's parents when I did there was a pause... and then they started speaking very loud. I was feeling really dizzy and I had NO clue what was going on. The first thing I understood was "How many grandchildren can we expect." I started laughing but apparently they were dead serious about the matter. My nerves were WRECKED!!! I know now that they were just happy but I tell you when it was all going down I thought if he grabbed a knife I would have to run so I planned my exit through the tables to the door. :help:

I was the same way talking with her dad although I didn't plan for an escape. Good thing I didn't need one. :P

MMM such a sweet thread....

My baby, he never gave up on me. After I agreed to "be just for him" and (most likely marry him) before we ever met face to face, he was intent to talk with my mom and dad online a few times and worriedly asked them for their permission to marry me which was granted and left to my discretion. My mom JUST loves him to pieces. Then after discussing our different traditions we each got a ring (yes I just went and bought my own, more meaningful than expensive as I have a huge distaste for diamonds anyway) and we made a silly show of putting them on together.

His family said ok, but I think they really never thought I would come and really do it.... so pressures mounted on his side (from his father) as the date got nearer. But he fought for his right and we did it. He did buy me a wedding band which he put on my finger during the vows at the court in an official manner.

So now everybody is getting used to us being married :) I talk to the women in his family almost every day, and he talks to my mom a lot, mostly to have her fight his battles with me. :)

It's not especially romantic, but it's mine.

Peace,

Mariah

My John proposed the night before his flight that next morning at 6am. It was in one french resturant somewhere in manila, and the engagement ring was in my dessert (L)... So i was very happy but also crying with sadness in the car at that time after i sent him to the airport in that morning.

Chains do not hold a marriage together. It is threads, hundreds of tiny threads which sew people together through the years.

On J's first visit here in the Philippines, I decided to take him to National Museum which unfortunately was closed on that day. That kind of ticked me off so I decided to take him to another museum which, unfortunately was close as well. It was mid day and extremely hot and I think we were the only couple taking a walk in the middle of the park. When we approached the monument of our national hero, we decided to take our picture right there. A freelance photographer approached us and said he'd take our picture. I told him that we brought our cam and so he left. I held the camera but figured I couldn't take a good shot so J did it. I was about to pose when J popped the magic question. A moment's passed, I asked him, "Are you serious?" It was about 2 in the afternoon, weather was hot and we were sweating. He asked me again and I replied, "Where's my ring?" Of course he knew that I said yes. (L):luv::dance:
