Copies and Photocopies??

I am going to be sending in my i130 soon and just want to clarify a few things. What is the difference between a copy and a photocopy? Does a scan taken on your computer and then printed out in color/b/w count as a photocopy? Where can I get photocopies made of my docs.

Also, I really don't want to send in originals of anything...so what things would i need photocopies for, both for the petitioner and the beneficiary? I know my passports bio page and birth certificate must be a photocopy am I right? I won't be sending in the passport bio page and birth cert of the beneficiary just yet will I. I will need to send in my affidavits for the bonifides of the marriage, photos of our wedding, chat logs and phone bills showing us calling each other. What do i do for the translation of the emails and chats....they're all in roman Urdu (Urdu written in English)???

What else sort of proof should I be sending other than this stuff. He will be sending me money($700.00) through money gram...should i ask him to get a receipt and send that to me to send with my petition? Would that help?

Is the fact that I won't be putting employment info on the petition going to make them not approve? I wish I could show on the petition that I will be using a sponsor...I just don't want the unemployed thing to hurt our chances. I will be going to Pakistan in a few weeks to be with my husband throughout this whole process....so I can't even use his employment..or finances......don't have any of mine as im living with the parents. Can't show their income as mine I'm sure....so what could i do in the petition so that this issue won't be too serious?

Again.....copies and photocopies....can they be done at home? whats the difference in the two? Where can I get them done? Kinko's? Which documents, his and mines, do I need to photocopy or copy...or send in the originals of.

I will not be using DCF, as in Pakistan...and I've asked a lot about this......no one has been able to do this through dcf because Pakistan does not have a 6 month residency thing....they just pretend to apparently. You can't become a permanent resident for less than 10 yrs I believe. Though I have heard that there is something you can do if your parents are Pakistani nationals/citizens....but that takes quite some time to. So I will be getting my mail forwarded to me in Pakistan. Would this cause any issues later in the process.I just want to be able to prove the bonifides of our marriage when interview time comes.

Should I start filing from Pakistan? Once I've established proof that we are living together so that I can send that in with the petition...or should I file now and then go....which would be best?

Photo copies when filing an I-130 to USCIS.

Per USCIS:

USCIS no longer routinely requires submission of original documents or "certified copies." Instead, ordinary legible photocopies of such documents (including naturalization certificates and alien registration cards) will be acceptable for initial filing and approval of petitions and applications.

What is the difference between a copy and a photocopy?

A photocopy is a copy made by any sort of photographic or xerographic process. It would include a Xerox copy, as well as a copy made by a similar process using an office copier of another brand (IBM, Sharp, Epson, HP, etc.). It would also include a copy made by a computer with a scanner and inkjet printer.

A "copy" made by having a human re-type the text of a document on a typewriter is NOT a photocopy. Some might not even call it a copy, but I'm straining to come up with an example of a "copy" that's not also a "photocopy".

For clarity, "photocopying" is a "scan and print" process done in one pass, so if you scan then print in a two-stage process, the result is the same. You might find it ultimately less expensive to take things out to "photocopy" when there are a lot of pages but it's your choice.

My "printer" also "photocopies", so I just do it as a one-stage process.

Yes, scan and print in one operation or scan then print later is the same result.

:dead::sleepy::clock:

:) maybe you should post a new topic for your other questions. :)

Q1. not yet. you will send this with the DS230.

Q2. you should submit one or more of the following types of documentation that may evidence that bona fides of your marriage:Documentation showing joint ownership or property; or A lease showing joint tenancy of a common residence; or

Documentation showing co-mingling of financial resources; or Birth certificate(s) of child(ren) born to you, the petitioner, and your spouse together; or

Affidavits sworn to or affirmed by third parties having personal knowledge of the bona fides of the marital relationship. (Each affidavit must contain the full name and address, date and place of birth of the person making the affidavit, his or her relationship to the petitioner of beneficiary, if any, and complete information and details explaining how the person acquired his or her knowledge of your marriage); or Any other relevant documentation to establish that there is an ongoing marital union.

I believe all these : photos of our wedding, chat logs and phone bills, remittance receipts, and emails are needed for the interview. But maybe you can use it as other relevant documentation to establish an ongoing marital union.

Q3. Yes that would helpful.

Q4. It doesnt matter if you are currently unemployed. As long as when you submit your AOS someone will co-sponsor your husband. (someone should correct me if i am wrong)

Q5. marriage certificates and birth certificates with the I130 should be photocopies only. I didnt see any originals in the instruction. You need the passport pictures though of both of you. and dont forget to fill up the G-325A for both of you too.

Q6 and Q7. I dont know the answers

for clarification on Question 1.

If you were asking about a copy of the beneficiary's passport bio page - you will need it for the DS230.

But if you were asking about your copy of US passport to show that you are a US Citizen, yes - you need to submit that with your i130.
