Yes, if it's a weather-related pissing contest, you win hands down, because it's hot almost all the time in Florida. But I'm pretty sure it is not so extreme that it makes sense to consider a heat advisory for a heat index of 105 to be the equivalent of a frost advisory at 54.

[snip]

So I take some exception to the implication that calling this hot is like calling 54F cold.

You obviously mistook my post to mean something entirely different than what I was thinking. I agreed with you that I find other States hotter than Florida.:blink: And I wasn't comparing a frost advisory to a heat advisory. I was just stating that I found it funny when they did that as an aside to the conversation. Holy smokes.

Oh, I'm sorry, Krikit. I did misread your posts. I took that as sarcasm because people really don't usually think of the Midwest as being a gigantic outdoor sauna the way Florida is. Plus trailmix is right, it is making me cranky. I want it to go away.

Ick, 101 is ####### if the humidity is anything above 8%.

I agree - there are many hot places in the U.S. - I think Florida does get that reputation because it's pretty warm all year round - but geez when we were in Tennesse in April it was over 80 degrees!

Okay. Thanks. No harm. You'd be pretty hard-pressed to find me being sarcastic. Not my style. :)

Now back to the weather!

Yes, I totally agree that other States may get to the same temperature as Florida, or higher, but it just doesn't seem as hot here as it does there. I've posted about this before, but I think it has something to do with the fact that we're a small strip of land in between two large bodies of water, so we always have a pleasant breeze to go along with the heat. Inland, it gets pretty brutal.

Trailmix, did you see the weather warnings we're getting until 1:00am??!! :o I guess now's a good time to read the weather radio owner's manual. icon2.gif

Wow--apparently the heat wave is spreading north toward Toronto, and their garbage collectors are still on strike. That's going to be nasty.

Poor Toronto--we send them all our crappiest weather---snow and ice storms, cold snaps, heat waves---but the nice stuff never seems to make it that far.

96% humidity this morning. Meh.

Our friend in Springfield, Missouri, said it was still 99 degrees when she left work---at 9 pm! That's just so wrong on so many levels.

Storms are great for cooling things off. At least they knock out the humidity, even if it's only for a few hours.

I agreed with you that I find other States hotter than Florida.:blink: And I wasn't comparing a frost advisory to a heat advisory. I was just stating that I found it funny when they did that as an aside to the conversation. Holy smokes.

Gulf Coast Texas and Austin/San Antonio have so far been the hottest I've endured in my existance here. One year in the summer I was in Florida visiting friends and it was normal 90's humid but not bad. Drove to Austin for a week to stay with my cousins and it was insane. You walk out the door and litterly you have salty sweat pouring in your eyes. Then I went off to Phoenix for a few days and even though it was in the 100's there isn't the humidity factor, so I was actually wearing a light jacket.

Vegas is always hotter then Florida for extremes, but they too dont' have any humidity. So by hotter it's kind of hard to say one state is hotter then another. Miami for example is consistantly above 70 almost year round (except for a few times), while Vegas may peak in the 110's or more in the summer, it's not unheard of to have snow fall at times in the winter either.

I wouldn't even say Texas is hotter then Florida or Arizona etc, because only a certain part of the state can be that way. Ever been to the Texas panhandle in winter? Yeah blowing snow and ice. Same with northern Arizona in winter, Ice festival in sub zero temps. Does it snow in the Florida Pan Handle? Usually once a year or so. So one can't really compare one state to another very well. More like one city or county is a little easier to compare...
