Okay, I confess to going to a webcam after reading everyone's weather report. I'm obsessed. Interestingly enough, I have always wanted to be a meteorologist ever since I can remember. I did look into it years ago but the only school at the time was in Ottawa (if I remember correctly) and it required all kinds of mathematical ability..... something which wasn't much of a strong point with me. I hate math. Strangely enough, I ended up a business manager in charge of a multi-million dollar budget requiring the use of numerous mathematical formulas..... so I could have gone for it anyway. :bonk:

Yeah, hating math in school and applying your great analytical skills are worlds apart aren't they!

You can still be a meteorologist - then we would have our own Canada thread meteorologist...and you could answer a question each day like Tom Terry in the sentinel :)

Krikit you need to get one of these, you can predict the weather without having to know all the math junk:

ooo la la...look at that gadget.

"...My hair's mostly wind,

My eyes filled with grit

My skin's white then brown

My lips chapped and split

I've lain on the prairie and heard grasses sigh

I've stared at the vast open bowl of the sky

I've seen all the castles and faces in clouds

My home is the prairie and for that I am proud…

If You're not from the Prairie, you can't know my soul

You don't know our blizzards; you've not fought our cold

You can't know my mind, nor ever my heart

Unless deep within you there's somehow a part…

A part of these things that I've said that I know,

The wind, sky and earth, the storms and the snow.

Best say that you have - and then we'll be one,

For we will have shared that same blazing sun." - David Bouchard

Very windy here right now. Rain has stopped. I looked for a webcam in my area but apparently we do not have one. Maybe I'll install one. Anyhoo.... this was the closest I could find. It's the construction camera in the next town over. If you look at the lone tree in the middle of the bottom of the screen you will see it blowing. lol

Tavares, Florida Construction Webcam

Ooops. There's more than one tree in that picture. It was so dark I didn't notice. lol

You weren't the only one, I took a bunch of Climatology classes in college towards my BA degree in Geography and yep the huge math stuff kind of was a set back for me too. I was wanting to apply to the University of Oklahoma in Norman for their Meterology program too. I'm at least close to the National Atmospheric Research Center in Boulder. I too have webcam links from all over North America (mainly the roads and highways webcams). This way when I see some storm in the papers, I'm looking at the cams to see for myself.

Now I do still tornado chase in the Spring time which is fun, but that's about all I do with radars and doplers on the net when trying to determine where I'm going or what state I'm driving too that day etc...

I'm just a wanderer in the desert winds...

Hi Everyone,

Good idea about starting a thread about the local weather and road reports...after all, everyone usually asks "How's the weather?", so why not post about it here on VJ?

In answer to this weather post, the detailed weather forecast from where I am now (Small Rural Town, New York State, USA), is as follows (from www.weather.com):

Current conditions as of 4:54 pm EST (on Jaunary 7th, 2009)

Feels Like: 36° (degrees fahrenheit), (which is about 0 degrees celcius)

Barometer: 29.08 in and rising

Humidity: 89%

Visibility: 10 mi

Dewpoint: 33°

Wind: VAR 7 mph

Sunrise: 7:42 am

Sunset: 4:55 pm

Tonight: Periods of snow. Low 23F. Winds WSW at 20 to 30 mph. Chance of snow 80%. 1 to 3 inches of snow expected.

Tomorrow: Snow likely. High 23F. Winds W at 15 to 25 mph. Chance of snow 70%. Snow accumulating 2 to 4 inches.

And yes, it's cold, and snowy here. I love it this way, and wouldn't dare live in another place where it never snowed (don't all Canadians love this type of weather too?)! This type of weather was just like it was when I was in Canada (which is 90% of the time exactly the same, oddly enough, as I only moved 300miles/600km between Canada and the USA and we got the same weather systems). The only exception is that we get more snow here (due to "Lake effect" from Lake Ontario), and the snow here is a lot more beautiful (pure white, none of that yucky grey stuff) now in the rural countryside than it was in the city. And yes, "the more snow, the more happier I am"......Oh the joys of the winter season!

By the way, if you want to check out webcam images that are the closest to me (even though it is about 1-2 hours away from where I am, but close enough), you can check out the "Peace Bridge" Buffalo, NY webcam here: http://www.peacebridge.com/webcam.php (And yes, it helps too for border crossings...)

Enjoy the weather where you are, Everyone, regardless of what it may be! And good luck on your immigration journeys too.

Ant (Snowy, Cold, and Loving it!....)
