Capitalism is only bad for those people that aren't in the small segment of the population that controls the goods/wealth.

So capitalism is good for only a small segment of the population and bad for most of us?

Hey strive for greatness and then you can be in the small segment. Then it will be good for you too :P

In general I think living standards are better in countries that have publicly run healthcare - certainly this is borne out in terms of life expectancy, infant mortality etc.

Just because they're older don't mean they ain't mediocre!

From my experience the cost of living here is little different to how it was in the UK, once you factor in healthcare deductions etc.

Yeah you're paying for a more mediocre life there.

Here you get fewer years but those years are kickass!

Striving is hard work. I'd rather VJ.

Exactly. Keep your head down, don't make trouble and you're set for life.

Do just enough not to get fired. Not that it's easy to get fired from a government job - it's almost impossible.

At least one person agrees with me

Yeah you can die of heart disease or stroke years before your time stressing about lost insurance coverage and paying for heart medication when you're laid off in your 50's.

Most people (or should I say "sheeple") are mediocre and happy in their mediocrity -

boring lives, average kids, quiet homes.

Even America has largely forsaken a striving for excellence, which is why we're told

that "one man is as good as another" or "all lives are worth the same".

This is why they are so happy to see a successful person fail or a billionaire commit

suicide - they strive to be mindless robots and want everyone to be the same as them.

From Wiki (idk if this is correct):

Some people have labelled Singapore a social democracy, although the PAP has consistently rejected the notion of being socialist. However, some of PAP's policies do contain certain aspects of socialism, which includes government-owned public housing constituting the majority of real estate and the dominance of government controlled companies in the local economy. The Housing Development Board oversees a large-scale public housing programme and education in Singapore is a rigorous compulsory public education system, and the dominance of government-controlled companies in the local economy.
