Hi,

We have just received NOA2. While I was prepping DS230, I stumbled upon Item 33a-b and 35. :help: I already have SSN because I lived in the US as an F1 student (and so I have a card, too). Should I just check "No" for the 2nd question of 33a and 33b?

Also where should I check for item 35? Should I just check "A special category" and write "K1 Visa"? I'll appreciate anyone's advice on this.

Firstly it matters not, in cases of a K-Visa you can check anything and it WILL not result in a SSN, simply check NO

Since you have SSN you do not need to apply for another.

As for #35 please read the line above it:

DO NOT WRITE BELOW THE FOLLOWING LINE

The consular officer will assist you in answering item 35.

DO NOT SIGN this form until instructed to do so by the consular officer

REF the example form: http://www.visajourney.com/examples/Form-DS-230.pdf

OUR TIME LINE Please do a timeline it helps us all, thanks.

Is now a US Citizen immigration completed Jan 12, 2012.

Hi,

I am in the same situation. I stayed in the US as a student. My school gave me SSN card! I marked "YES" box in the 33a question. and gave my SSN number. Also they ask in the same question if I want a new card I said "yes" too..

I also marked "yes" box for 33b question.

I agree with the above. There is your 3rd opinion.

Even if you do tick yes, you will not get sent a card, you won't even get a number generated as the number you have is with you for life.

Thank you. Now that's convincing.

Now I am confused! Is this different for K-3? I already have a SSN I checked YES. Because I have SSN and I want a new SSN card. It says if you want a new card.. I want a new card.. so i said YES... Am I wrong?

All I know is a K1 will NOT be issued a SSN and they have to go to an office to get one. May be different for K3.
