I found out only when I went to get my SSN. They told me that although I had a K1 in my passport, I was entered as a F1 visa holder and told to get this sorted before they can process my SSN. But of course they couldn't tell me WHERE to get this sorted.. I have an INFOPASS appointment with an immigration officer so hopefully will get results tomorrow.

Oh dear...I hope that they sort it out for you ASAP. It really irks me that they expect us to do everything PERFECT, and we take each and every painstaking effort to make sure things are successful from our end, but these officers do such ridiculous things as this

I sincerely hope the INFOPASS appointment is all you need to get this sorted out. (F)

I agree! We screw up, it is sent back to us to be rectified and this causes long delays to our petitions.

They screw up it is left to us to rectify it and this causes delays.

Grrrrrrrrrrr, I hope the infopass apt helped gemmie.

Prima, get rid of anything you haven't worn for a year and is to big and to small. Anything with holes in, and anything you just dont like anymore!

Well I had my appointment today and the officer told me that THEY (USCIS) had me entered on a B2 (tourist) visa!! It pisses me off that we went through this 9 month process only for US immigration to not even know what visa I was on, or try to rectify it themselves. I told her I had never applied for a tourist visa in my life and she said "they must've got it from somewhere..."

She told me to go to the airport I entered in, and get them to change my visa status.

Bloody ridiculous. :( I traveled to the airport by myself which I'm very proud of, and CBP changed it within about 20 minutes.

Good luck, Prima. I threw most of my clothes away or gave to charity and it actually felt very refreshing!

Howdy all! Been a way for quite a while I realise, been having a quick catch up read - congrats to all the approvals! - and now just reading about poor Gemmie's POE - but well done on getting it resolved ok! Do these visa worries ever end??!

I am making the leap on Wednesday! After finishing up at my job, clearing out my flat and spending time with friends and family, it's come round quick. I am very excited/nervous - you know the score! I have a direct flight and POE at Dulles, so fingers crossed it goes ok. Wedding's not until the end of August so I have a few weeks to get settled at least (and find a dress!)

I'm sure I'll be back on here again a tonne what with SSN, driving licence and other fun and then onto AOS, wheee! Here we go again.....

Wow Ellie, your time has come quickly!

I was still packing on the morning I left  ... I faffed about way too much deciding what to take and give away. My advice is to start early as something always crops up that you forgot about.

You must be so excited!

I AM FREAKING OUT!!!

I left all my goodbye's till the last week. I couldn't bare to say a tearful goodbye and then see someone in the supermarket two days later! I had my first set of goodbye's last night.....and it certainly makes it more real.

I have most of my clothes packed, my step dad works in shipping so he is sorting out a crate to be shipped to me. So there is basically just eating and drinking to be done!

I agree....it feels like it has come round so quickly. I get 2 weeks @ home with dave before he goes back to work....that will be lovely. Then real life kicks in.

How are you doing gemmie? How's "real life" treating you?

Completely understand. I tried to leave the goodbyes until the very last minute too. It's hard when everyone is so aware that you're leaving and it's the one of the last times they'll see you, and you're trying so hard to make it seem OK and not too sad. The final goodbyes at the station or airport (if they're seeing you off) will be the worst, but just keep reminding everyone that you'll keep in touch and visit each other.

It's good that you have a contact to help you with shipping.

Real life has been an emotional roller coaster, really. The biggest problem is boredom, and feelings of isolation at times. I miss my friends so much, and I'm alone in the suburbs most of the day. We've just got Vonage installed which means I can talk to loved ones for free and they can call us for local UK rate. Our next task is to join me up to classes or clubs, get a monthly train pass, and generally try and get out more.

I'm sure you'll do fine Ellie, and I see you've got a fairly good understanding of some potential difficulties. Florida looks beautiful. :)

Slightly off topic, but a leap of sorts. Knight and Magpie were married in Texas on the 4th of July. I had the privilege of being there and being her "mum" to help her get ready. She is so beautiful. It was a quickly planned civil ceremony at Marriage Island, but it was absolutely lovely. (L)

Here's the location:

marriage%20Island%20SATX.jpg

Marriage Island is the most romantic spot on the River Walk. The small Island was the location of San Antonio's first Catholic mass in 1691. It is now a popular spot for lovers to become engaged or exchange their marriage vows. It is said if you become engaged or get married on the Island, you will have a long and happy marriage. It's not unusual to happen across a small wedding or proposal in progress as you stroll along the River Walk on any day of the year.

that look's freaking gorgeous

We plan on getting hitched in the next two weeks, as we are having a pastor marry us he has to meet us twice before doing the do, thats Michigan!!!

   :dance:congrats Ellie . I realised in packing that I was totally unorganised, but it will get done in the end. I dont know if anyone does this, but my dad is sending over a barrel with my stuff, its cheaper than normal shipping we use it alot when we go back to the West Indies.

Still adjusting, at the moment just decorating. I hope Marm will light my visa fire with the excitement of the visa arrival however.  LOl I was so happy last week, I actually forgot it was my birthday on Thursday. Silly me.

Belated happy b-day Prima! Glad to see things are settling in. We are not in any type of Admin Processing as we are consistently being informed by DOS...I don't really know the reason for our delay in receiving the visa in hand. DOS keeps telling us we should get it soon, it is not in AP/AR. I just hope this week is our week! We are close to hitting the 11 month mark (even though I know many have waited more than 11 months, MonkeyJuice for example (F) ) but it is frustrating because we are not in AP/AR so there is no reason we see feasible for the hold-up. We have contacted the embassy by email and should be getting a reply in a day or two as to what is going on...I just hope we get the visa in hand before their reply
