my computer has gone insane

Ok so I restarted my computer and everything came back up normally. I type in my password and it says loading and then instead of the desktop coming up it's just a black screen with a mouse. Sooooooo...I turned it off and restarted it in safe mode and it was so weird...it comes up with a black screen, the mouse, and safe mode in all 4 corners of the screen and nothing else. ####### is going on? I have Vista. Any ideas from anyone?

Was it working fine up until this time...no freeze ups, error messages, crashes etc? Have you recently installed any software or downloaded anything?

it was totally working. didn't crash, didn't download, didn't update. it's nuts.

I have 2 laptops and a desktop soooo it won't be the end of me but that was my favorite one. It's my "sitting on the couch laptop".

it was totally working. didn't crash, didn't download, didn't update. it's nuts.

get a new jacket for it and put it into a rubber room !!!
