No worries, William.

I give up.

Lemme know how that 'haters' thing works out for you, Ling Ling. Unreal.

Ling Ling - all I'm saying to you is that if you have really done that much good around here, then the good will follow you without advertising it.

Your title is "earned stripes", mine is "advertising". Let's just agree to disagree on that one, and move on. The hators are abandoning their posts,

so maybe now we can have some intelligent discussion/debate on the merits of the proposed forum(s).

But maybe that's just me.

ok, so going back to the topic.

The buddy system might be good at first blush, but really what makes this forum amazingly useful is the ability to put a question out there, and get lots of answers back. As mentioned before, people giving info they think is correct, may not be, and the info is not open for others to correct.

I am a staunch supporter of the regional forums. I think that it invaluable to have people with similar frames of reference going through the same thing. There are a lot of issues like local documents that are specific to countries etc.

In the same spirit, threads or subforums for the places in the US that people actually move to, or live in might be helpful for local info and support on moving, finding a job, and settling in. Thoughts?

You know what I don't understand about all this advocacy of the Regional Forums as a place for 'important information' about the different local documents, etc?

Does anybody actually use the Embassy Info link underneath the Happy Couples? IMO that is the place where consular specific advice belongs.

Maybe the problem is nobody updates that area. Or that everybody think the info belongs in Regionals.

I dunno.

Not sure if it was you...can't take the pains of going back through the thread...but somebody mentioned the word "clutter" very early on.

As you note here, perhaps there are some forums which either have out-lived their usefulness, or aren't labeled/arranged in as efficient a manner as possible.

I'm not saying we need a site overhaul, but there absolutely appears to be an argument for maintenance and updates.

Have you looked at that area? I don't call it 'clutter' if you have all the information including the consulates phone numbers, web addresses, etc in one place instead of having to dig through threads looking for something that is 'oh so important'.

If you had been around here a little longer, Ling Ling, you'd know that the problem isn't that we need new areas to dig through for advice. We need the original areas be kept up to date, and we need them to be easy to find. I think Ewok is starting to realize that he's laid around on his rear too long around here because I've seen some recent housekeeping.

I wouldn't say 'laid around on his rear' (I know you mean it in an affectionate way) but I think the reality is that he's only one man. No matter how passionate about this,

he's still got his own life to live outside VJ. I know there's moderators, and organizers, but are there any volunteers dedicated to specific forums?

I think it would be good to have teams dedicated to the maintenance of specific forums.

As for the dissemination of important information, I think that forums are the wrong place for that. I think the Wiki needs to be utilized more. The fact being,

forums retain static information which is quickly outdated, and can lead to errors. When accessing the Wiki, you're sure to have only the most current version of information.

I still hold fast, and feel validated in that Capt. Ewok and others have expressed concern and interest, that we do in fact need to from time to time create new forums that meet the needs of immigrating families.

Moderators for different forums!

Hey, now that's a novel idea!

Not gonna happen.

It should happen.

I know it should. But it's been talked about before and it never does.

I don't think the Captain like to give up any real control around here.

Sorry about that, but it's my honest opinion.
