Since travel and career are common to the needs of immigrating families, how about forums specifically focused on each?

In the travel forum, people can post travel tips and deals.

In the career forum, people can exchange tips, and insight into different careers and associated training.

Just a thought...

Note:

Please fill out I-130, wait 6 months for approval, then 3 more months for an interview. (Unless of course we've bombed your country into the stone age, then you qualify for expedited processing.)

Welcome to the USA!!!

I agree, as long as each of these forums is broken down into regional sub-forums.

(This post is not serious. There are many like them, but this one is mine.)

OP, I think it may sound a good idea to you in theory, but where does all the sub-forum crud end? We have a "Moving Here and Your New Life" section already. We have a "Working and Travelling" section already.

As for the idea about advice on an advice about different careers forum, exactly how many sub sections would that consist of? There are literally millions of websites on career building in the USA ( and world-wide).

Why the reinvention of the wheel? We have the appropriate forums already, and I see no point in adding another cluttered CF of a sub section.

I am saying best advice for careers-------GOOGLE the EXACT career ( DOL website is a good place to start), Research the region of the country you will be living in and tailor make a plan for YOU, not tailor make a whole SUB FORUM on here for you.

Take a large, almost round, rotating sphere about 8000 miles in diameter, surround it with a murky, viscous atmosphere of gases mixed with water vapor, tilt its axis so it wobbles back and forth with respect to a source of heat and light, freeze it at both ends and roast it in the middle, cover most of its surface with liquid that constantly feeds vapor into the atmosphere as the sphere tosses billions of gallons up and down to the rhythmic pulling of a captive satellite and the sun. Then try to predict the conditions of that atmosphere over a small area within a 5 mile radius for a period of one to five days in advance!

and the ones you spoke of just now and i made red, are where you can discuss exactly what the OP is asking for, so no need for MORE forums on breaking these down.

"VJ Timelines are only an estimate, they are not actual approval dates! They only reflect VJ members. VJ Timelines do not include the thousands of applicants who do not use VJ"

IF YOU ARE NEW TO THE SITE, PLEASE READ THE GUIDES BEFORE ASKING ALOT OF QUESTIONS. THE GUIDES ARE VERY HELPFUL AND WILL SAVE YOU ALOT OF TIME!

The description for the Moving Here and Your New Life forum says "Post your experiences after arriving in America. How has your life changed? Share things like if you got work authorization; is it what you thought it would be; are you happy, etc."

The actual title of the Working and Traveling section you mention is "Working & Traveling prior to getting a Green Card"

with a description of "If you do not enter on an immigrant visa when you get to the US you will not typically be able to work or leave the US without jeopardizing your immigration status unless you have an Employment Authorization Document (EAD) or an Advance Parole (AP) from the USCIS. This section also covers getting a Social Security Number (SSN) and is for general discussion on all these topics".

I realize these may sound similar to my proposed forums in theory, but if you take time to analyze them, they were setup for entirely different purposes.

Your idea of using Google could apply to any and all of the current forums. Just as VJ is not a replacement for Google, the proposed forums likewise are not to replace or substitute Google or other search sites. Just as with Immigration, it would be a structured virtual space where VJers can exchange information specific to work or travel. With regard to a how many sub-sections, I think a career forum with a description of "Post your questions and experiences about different careers and training for different careers", and a travel forum with a description of "Post hot deals, you favorite sites, and any travel related experiences regarding immigration".

Perhaps there is a current clutter of forums, and just like the clutter in your home, it doesn't mean you just stop adding things that are useful or that enhance the experience of your visitors. If there's a perceived clutter, then there needs to be a cleanup, not a surrender or avoidance of evolution and growth. I believe VJ is not static, but is a living entity that has to grow and evolve with the needs of her members.

Ok but however, the Moving Here and Your New Life and Working and Travelling forums we have already are used for exactly what your asking ewok to create. If we already have something that is for working here and living here, why give ewok more work? it just doesnt make sence. Most ppl do not analyze every forum on here, they use the forums for what they were built for. To my experience, and the time i have been here, everyone has had great sucess with using those 2 forums for work related sharing, and as well as travel info. Its also common in the regionals....ppl are very helpful and informative with work related help and advise in regionals, and even OT, as well as travel info.

Just my HO....i dont think we need to add more to what we already have.

Did you even read the descriptions I posted, of the forums you suggested as sufficient to fit the need?

Could you even consider that besides cleaning up the "clutter" you speak of, that maybe there's a need to address

the intended purpose of existing forums? Your relentless protest appears rock solid. I wonder if there would

ever be any reason or need strong enough for some of you to consider additional forums....or overhauling the existing structure.

When the winds of change come, some people go inside and shutter their doors and windows.

Others build windmills.

Definitely agree we should have windmills, with lots of tiny little regional forums.

I realize your statement's in jest, but consider the forums as blades.

More blades = more energy = more performance (in theory) :innocent:

Finally someone who gets me. ;) (because it is, after all, all about me. :) )

I can't say as I agree with you Ling, but I do agree that your proposal should be heard out instead of dismissed out of hand. Constructive criticism may not always be valid, but it's good conversation to have. Don't be deterred!
