How much do you spend on groceries a week?

After seeing how much people think is too much to spend for going out to dinner I'm curious how much people spend on groceries per week. Typically I spend about $120-150/wk for basics and then drop in a few times throughout the week spending $20-30 on fresh produce and meat. So when I heard that $30 is a lot for eating out I thought I must be nuts spending $30 on stuff for one meal I'm cooking on my own.

How much do you typically spend?

How many people are you purchasing for?

I would guess 65.00 feeds these three mouths each week.

While we don't use coupons we do hit the discount (out of date) meat & fruits, veggie bin which saves a lot.

In reality, it's not 5 million. More like $115-120 a week now for two adults and one baby(that includes diapers, baby food/formula). I wish it was less.

As for the eating out, $30 is not a lot to me if it's once in awhile. Every day or several times a week is too much in my opinion. I would rather spend less on eating out to spend more on other things.

Yeah we actually found a really cheap grocery store this evening, run by a chinese family. Good stuff.

$30/person when dining out is slightly above our average. Not prohibitively spendy but slightly above average. I tend to get pretty judgmental about food at that price point, it better be good  At our usual $15/person I don't care how it tastes (to a point).

I don't know, but it's a lot more in the winter without the vegetable/herb garden, and without the local farmer's markets.

Guess what I am even worse than that, I meant $30 COMBINED! But then again, you are up north where things are always more at places to eat I believe.

Hmmmm...I'm more of a $30-50 entree (or more if it looks good) person...that doesn't include apps or dessert or drinks or whatever. I think I was spoiled by working in some of the best restaurants in Europe.

$50/entrees, I don't think I've ever willingly spent that. When I walk in and look at a menu I want to see entrees in the 20s. If the lowest is 35+, I'm out.

But then again, I'm poor.

Who said $30 is a lot for eating out?

For two people eating fast food, I think it's a lot...but not at a restaurant that serves you at the table.

Most of the restaurants we go to don't even have a bottle of wine for $30 bucks.

As for groceries...it's kind of like gas to me. If I tried to figure out how much I spend on it, I'd probably get upset...so I don't figure it out.

We just try to go to Sam's Club and stock up on non-perishables, and like Amby, we try to get our meats and produce as fresh as possible.
