N-400 -- forgot to include some info

Hi all!

I sent in my naturalization application three weeks ago. Today, while going through my wallet, I found a membership card to a political organization that I had completely forgotten I had joined. Needless to say, I did not include that info in my application, in the section that asks about affiliation with any group, organization, etc. I assume this is something I can clear up at the interview? Or should I send them a letter with the information and explain that it had completely slipped my mind when I filled the application?

Thanks much!

I would bring it to the interview and provide it if it comes up. Trying to send in any supplemental stuff without an RFE wont get it matched up to the application.

As to political org, I hope you did not attempt to vote in the last election.

OUR TIME LINE Please do a timeline it helps us all, thanks.

Is now a US Citizen immigration completed Jan 12, 2012.

No, I certainly did not attempt to vote. I limited my involvement to a paltry financial contribution. :)

What kind of political organization? A university "young republicans" group, or something more sinister that would be related to some of the political groups that typically cause concern (e.g. Nazi party, communist party, etc.)?

If it's the former, then chill. It's no big deal. If you forgot, you forgot. Disclose it at the interview if you must, but chances are it won't be a significant issue. For example, I didn't disclose a number of groups I am a member of - supermarket discount card "club", neighborhood "basketball night" club etc. I think the gvmt. is looking for membership in groups of political or security concern.

If it's the latter, then problems might arise - if I was an interviewer and an applicant "forgot" to mention membership in the communist party, it would be a huge issue for me. So might membership in a national or state political group if it indicated that you may have tried to vote (rather than just donate), and I'd be equally concerned that if you "forgot" to mention this, then perhaps there were other things that were "forgotten" too?

I wouldn't worry too much unless it's a name-brand influential group, or a group with un-American views.

Thanks much for your reply! The organization in question is neither sinister nor anti-American, and I have never made an attempt to register, let alone vote.

I feel more at ease now. Thanks, guys!

At my interview yesterday the IO was going through my N-400 having me verbally confirm answers etc. One of the questions she asked was "have you ever been a member etc". So, it will be asked at your interview - supply the information, give your explanation, and, unless it s a "red-flag raising" organisation, I cannot see it would be a problem. IMHO, it would be a total waste of time to try and send an amendment to your form now.
