Yep. That's part of the problem - using the military to police the people living in Gaza. There should be a coalition police force made up of Palestinians and Israelis, policing the area.

The only problem is... there is no police. Not anymore. Not since they got murdered by Hamas.

Remember the violent clashes a couple of years ago between Hamas and Fatah-allied PA police? Guess you missed that, eh?

Fighting between armed Palestinian factions

Palestinian security officials say police are no match for the armed groups. In Gaza, only about

half of the 18,000 members of the security forces carry guns, with a limited number of bullets

at their disposal, the officials say. Hamas in Gaza commands at least 5,000 gunmen, according

to some estimates, and has equipped them not only with assault rifles but also with anti−tank

missiles and grenades.

Well, since most of the financing of the Israeli military comes from the U.S., we could broker a deal between the Palestinians and Israelis to create a well equipt police force made up of both Palestinians and Israelis. It would be under the authority of both governments, separate from their military. That's what Gaza needs is a strong enough police force to patrol the area and it would be in the best interests of both sides to be equally represented in that force.

Steven, they HAD a police force. 18,000 people, well equipped. They couldn't handle Hamas - no police force can.

Israel is targeting civilians. I hope all US citizens can sleep at night knowing that our administration is in full support of this.

Random 60mm rockets versous F18s with 500lb bombs in civilian neighborhoods, bring on the nukes.

If only half of them even carried guns, that's not being well equipped. It can be done with the support of the US and Israel.

Hamas used the school as one big human shield.

So if a violent bank robber who gunned down several bystanders flees and hides into your neighborhood, you'll be okay if the police call in the national guard and bomb your area as an appropriate form of retaliation?

Umm. Nice try. If Hamas was using my land to fire rockets at Israel, I would have to be retarded to think Israel would do nothing about it.

So the school children are accomplices? Fuzzy logic.

So Hamas is the equivelent of bankrobbers? I think I see your problem.

Hiding among civilians is no different. Mowing innocent bystanders down to get to them makes absolutely no sense, unless of course you believe they are accomplices. Again...fuzzy logic.

Okay Steve, see if you can grasp this. Right now, go throw some fire crackers at your neighbor. Tell me what would happen? You would be thrown in jail immediately.

He would not be justified in responding with a 12gauge shot gun to the chest

I believe that the Palestinian/Israeli conflict will be a central focus to Obama's Foreign Policy...and I remain optimistic that his Administration will make progress where the previous one has failed.

Even in the NYPD, there are many positions where employees don't carry firearms.

Anyway, half of them carried - that's 9,000 armed police officers!

That's about the only thing Obama didn't promise. The Palestinian-Israeli conflict will get a patch up ceasefire and be placed on the back burner. There are too many other issues to worry about a conflict that won't be solved anytime soon.

Israel is targeting civilians! Really? Then why 1.5 million civilians surrounded by Israel and Egypt are still alive? :bonk:
