14. Name of Spouse

If I'm sending the DS-230 in for a fiance visa and do not have a spouse yet I would N/A this question correct?

Officially a citizen. My journey took 6 years, 6 months, and 29 days

bride2be,

A better answer would be 'no spouse'.

Although the State Department does not appear to be as picky as USCIS, breaking the 'N/A habit' is a good idea.

In the instructions it said if the question is Not applicable please put "N/A" - so hopefully they don't nit-pick their own rule.

"None," "No Spouse," "N/A" any should be an acceptable answer.

I-130 Timeline with USCIS:

It took 92 days for I-130 to get approved from the filing date

NVC Process of I-130:

It took 78 days to complete the NVC process

Interview Process at The U.S. Embassy

Interview took 223 days from the I-130 filing date. Immigrant Visa was issued right after the interview

bride2be,

The problem being that what one person may consider to be not applicable another person may consider to be very applicable. In the case of forms, in particular immigration forms, in the event of a difference of opinion it's the opinion of the government official that counts not the opinion of the person filling out the form.

There's always a better (more informative) answer than 'N/A', it's usually best to give the informative answer and not use N/A.

The State Department has shown itself to not be picky (in contrast to the USCIS which is notorious for sending RFE's to get informative answers to questions that were answered with N/A).
