DETROIT (Dow Jones) -- Hyundai Motor Co. announced a new incentive plan Monday that would allow new car buyers to break contracts and return vehicles if they lose their job or income.

...

The South Korean company is offering to cover up to $7,500 in negative equity on the lease or purchase of one of its cars or trucks.

If buyers loses their income for reasons ranging from unemployment to death, Hyundai will allow them to return the vehicle.

"Hyundai is the first auto maker to offer a vehicle return program in the U.S. that allows you to walk away from your loan or lease without having to worry about negative equity," the company said on its web site.

Not necessarily! A good friend of mine has a Hyundai and she is a nurse, her hubster is a social worker. They aren't RICH but they are super comfortable financially. She just liked this car over all the others she looked for. But I don't think she has a car payment....I think they just saved up and paid cash for it.

Anyway, it's still cool.

Anything to stimulate sales. Will they do this in addition to their usual huge discounts and selling for well under invoice?

Hec yeah! they are gonna get a billion or two to play with. Special deal just for us.
