My fiance and I have been wondering about the interview process for the K1 in Morocco. I've looked at the timelines, but they are pretty general, and I wanted to hear from people with experience already. So, I have two questions:

1. How long does it take from the time the consulate in Casa receives the I-129 and when they actually send out the packet for the interview?

2. How much time is the interviewee (in this case, my fiance) given between the time he is notified of the interview date and the actual interview? He'll need time to travel to Casablanca, and with his job as a teacher it's hard for him to get time off, so he needs enough time between the notification and the interview in order to plan for travel and time off from work.

What experiences have you all had in regard to this issue?

Thanks!

Maybe others who have interviews coming up have more insight, but our petition was approved in mid-September and my fiance got his packet at the end of Oct. (Oct 30) and the Interview was scheduled Dec 4. I honestly don't know when exactly they received the packet. I guesstimated about the first week of October or so.

I actually found out the interview date by calling the Department of State. They knew what it was. Then a couple of days later the packet finally showed up.

I think average is like 6 weeks to a 2 months between the time they get the packet to when the interview is scheduled.

Your fiance will have to make several trips to Casa tho. It's kind of a pain. He'll have to go for his medical exam as all the approved doctors are in Casa. Then he'll have to go for the interview. Then possibly (if they don't keep his passport at the interview) he'll have to bring the passport in and wait overnight for the visa to be issued the next afternoon.

I had to warn my fiance of that so he could also get the time away from his job, which isn't always easy. In fact, his visa sat there for 2 days, ready to be picked up. He wasn't able to come get it right away because of his job. sigh...............

Oh, this helps. So how did the medical exam work? Does he schedule it after he receives the packet? Is there a doctor that is more recommended? Will he have to wait for any lab results, or can those be mailed to his address? Even better, can he do the medical exam the same week as the interview? My fiance lives in the south (about an hour from Ouarzazate), so it's a pretty long travel for him to get to Casa. If he can do these things in the same trip, that would make his life a lot easier. If not, it's better to be prepared. Sorry for all the questions, but there are so many!

Thanks =)

He'll want to do the medical exam at least a month or a few weeks before the interview, because you want to allow enough time for the exam results to get to the consulate (they send the results directly to Casa). I've read of medical results taking long getting to Casa, so I wouldn't recommend waiting too long. He should schedule the medical exam as soon as he gets his interview letter (and he'll need that letter for the medical exam)

My fiance called all the doctors on the list and went with the cheapest, as the prices do seem to vary.

Thanks for more tips! I sent a link to this page for my fiance to read. He is worried about the time off from work he'll need.

Anyway, I just noticed on your timeline that your fiance just got his visa a few days ago...Congratulations! I got NOA1 on October 23rd, so we're anxiously awaiting NOA2 (and the VSC seems to be pushing back things lately =( ), and then the interview, etc. I can't wait until it's us celebrating that visa in hand. I try not to think about too much at once, and it's easy to get overwhelmed reading all the information and discussions on this website. I have to make myself get off it sometimes because it's pointless to worry about everything at once. But I am super excited today because my principal (I'm a teacher) just approved me to take three extra days off after Spring Break so I have time to travel to see my fiance, giving us a glorious week together! He only works half-days as a primary school teacher, so we can spend lots of time together. I haven't booked the tickets yet, but in the next couple days I can have something to look forward to :D !

If you have any other tips or suggestions on this topic, I am really appreciating your help!

Cheers!

Thanks! :luv: That's great that you're able to go for a little more time to see him. I dunno if you read the other threads, but I just got fare for remarkably cheap to Morocco through American Airlines (their partner Iberia goes there). I'm flying there March 21 and bringing hunny home with me April 6 :) This will be my 4th trip there :innocent:

I wanted to tell you, now is the best time to really read these boards and get yourself ready for the interview process. Read the reviews for Casablanca too. It's helpful to be ready. And while you wait for your NOA2, you can start compiling your interview evidences so you're not doing it all at the last minute. Like, at the end of every month, print off chats and emails that you'd wanna include, and print off your cell phone records and skype usage, etc....That's how I organized myself.

If you need anything, just send me a PM

HI Queen! My husband is from a city 10 hrs east of casa by train. He had to make the three trips, one for medical, which was an all day thing (they have to go one place for xray, go to the pharmacy to buy their vaccine, take it back to the doc to get injected!!, the interview and then to take his passport. He was able to take that in the morning and pick it up in the afternoon., same day. Star is right in telling you that the medical should be done as soon as possible. You dont want the papers to not be there prior to interview! This process is not convenient for anyone, espeically those with regular jobs. Hopefully your fiance can get what he needs without too much hassel from work. Good luck.

Maggie

What experiences have you all had in regard to this issue?

Thanks!

1) I assume that Casa got our case somewhere around December 24th-28th or so (not totally sure because one office told us that our case was in Casa on the 24th while another office said it wasn't...phone call from a very frustrated woman at the Consulate on the 28th confirmed that our case WAS there), the interview letter/packet was mailed on January 5th, the packet was postmarked January 8th, and we received the packet/interview letter on January 12th. So I suppose the answer would be that it takes ABOUT two-three weeks or so for the packet to reach your fiance once the Consulate receives the file.

2) The interview date comes with the packet #3. However, if you e-mail the consulate, they are pretty good about giving you information relatively quickly regarding any progress on your case :)IVCasablanca@state.gov <- That is the e-mail for the Immigration Visa Unit in Casa. We found out about our interview date from them. I had e-mailed them a few times with concerns about our case and they were the ones who called us to let us know when our interview was and so on.

You can schedule your Dr. appointment before you receive the packet, and actually, I would recommend that. The Consulate lets you choose which doctor you prefer, but the downer is that all four are in Casablanca, so your fiance will be travelling to Casa more than once. You will want to schedule the appointment for a time when you think you will have your packet in hand as you are supposed to show your interview appointment letter at the Dr. office, but some people never receive the packet and have to go without it. The letter with Dr. info reads like this:

"

Monsieur/Madame:
