Hi! I accompanied my wife today for her medical examination appointment. She had 3 shots MMR, DPT and HPV plus the TB skin test exam. I cant believe that it will cost us 464$ to have that all!!

How much did you pay for your medical exam? Is HPV really needed? or we just been ripped off by that doctor. He said that effective august 2008 HPV vaccine is needed for woman below 27 yrs old. My wife is 26 yrs old. And were both shocked when we are told that its 464$. We are expecting that it should be less than 300$.

Thanks.

If they actually do all the tests, that are supposedly required by the USCIS, $464 is not too much.

My fiancee's medical results were 4 pages long, tested for about every desease know to man, and all of her vaccinations were brought up to date.

I know that she was healthy and dease free, but then I knew that before, just validated it.

I do know of someone who made it to the U.S. and was turned back because her medical information was suspect.

HPV is necessary fro AOS- one shot ordinarily costs about $160 or thereabout. If you had her on your insurance and had known what shots were missing, she could have gotten them from her PCP to lower the cost. But when I called around when I needed to do my medical Prices were up to $500.:blink:

I already asked my work to include her to my health insurance. She will get my health insurance in 3-4 weeks. If I only knew I should just waited till she gets my insurance.

Thanks for the reply! Really appreciate it!

What tests did they do other than hiv, syph and TB? there are no others required (other than a physical)

Your insurance would have counted for nothing. I am under my husband's plan, and the USCIS approved physician told me that the costs associated with the examination for immigration purposes are not covered under any insurance plan. For instance, the general check-up and the blood work, the TB test or pulmonary/chest Xray, if needed. The only thing that you could have done differently is go to a public health clinic (which is a terrible waste of time with incredible long lines and dead time waiting to be called on) and take the required vaccinations (which are at least $20 per shot anyway), and that can be covered by your insurance. So, relax, you have not wasted that much money.

Talking from my own experience. It cost me $300, out of pocket.

If you are insured, for the second and third shots for hep, take your file/vaccination card showing the first vaccination to any clinic accepting your insurance plan and have the insurance cover your costs. The vaccination is recommended even when traveling to foreingn countries as a health preventive measure, so some of the costs will be compensated. I have arranged with the physician to have these costs covered by insurance - no big deal. I could have went directly to a Walgreen clinic and have it done (so I told the doctor:))

Did you already pay? I think they ripped you off.. I live in Chicago as well, and went to this place:

http://www.michiganavenueimmediatecare.org...n_medicals.html

They accept several insurance plans so I only paid my insurance deductible ($40)
