Do you know if at any point of the Cr1 process I'm going to need the original marriage certificate and my original divorce decree (im the beneficiary). I have certified copies of both but my husband thinks he lost the originals. Do I need the originals for the interview or can I just take the certified copies?

Its safe to have orignal handy just incase they wont accept your certified copies.

Can you describe the certified copies that you have?

The reason I ask is because there is a difference between certified copies and notarized copies. Many people, including myself think that both are interchangeable but they're not.

Certified copy is issued by the agency who has the original documents. They are swearing that the certified copy is a copy of the original document that they hold. This differs from a notarized copy, where you or someone makes a copy of an original and a notary (who is independent of the agency who issued the document) swears that this is a true copy of the original.

So please make sure that the certified copy is issued by the agency who issued the original marriage certificate, not a notarized copy.

You will get an RFE if you provide notarized copies. My sister-in-law filing for her mother just got an RFE for submitting a "true copy" of her mothers birth certificate and the NVC asked for either the original or a certified copy.

Had all the originals at the interview, the interviewer did not ask for a single paper, but I did have them.

I would suggest you somehow get your originals for marriage and divorces. In MOrocco they specifically asked us for the originals of both.

I would also hate you to get a paper saying you need to provide originals....

The website specifically says orginal OR certified copies. They cannot demand originals only otherwise half the people who apply for visas would never get one, it would be totally unrealistic! Many many people lose their originals at some point in their lives never to be seen again, a certified copy from the issuing agency is perfectly adequate and it is clear on the website, one of the few things that is!
