I have rented cars in 7 different countries, on a tourist visa, on a business, visa and on a work visa why should the U.S. be different.

My wife drives on her Brazilian drivers liscense and I am shure she could rent a car with the creditials she has, after all she is in this country legally.

I will try and let you know.

When tourist come here (and rent cars/drive) they do so with their existing license (from their country) - that's different from being given a license.

In most states - a K1 entrant can drive legally for up to one year on their existing license (if they have one). Otherwise - in most cases - a K1 entrant will need at least their EAD if not GC to obtain a state-issued driver's license. (Check your state's requirements - www.dmv.org)
