New Year, New Diet...

Hello my long lost friends...I have been off of work for two weeks and have missed yas.

So, as this is a new year and many people's resolution is to lose weight, I'm also on that bandwagon. We have had many threads about how much weight some of us have put on since being to the US and it seems like I'm always eating on the go or kinda crappy.

Any ways, since I'm the sort of person who loves convenience (I work long hours and my commute is far) I was thinking about joining nutrisystem.

Can any one advise me against or for this? It seems to be the cheapest option out there for getting pre-planned meals for me to have.

I would love to cook for myself and eat right but I think I do need a head start with someone doing it FOR me. haha

"...My hair's mostly wind,

My eyes filled with grit

My skin's white then brown

My lips chapped and split

I've lain on the prairie and heard grasses sigh

I've stared at the vast open bowl of the sky

I've seen all the castles and faces in clouds

My home is the prairie and for that I am proud…

If You're not from the Prairie, you can't know my soul

You don't know our blizzards; you've not fought our cold

You can't know my mind, nor ever my heart

Unless deep within you there's somehow a part…

A part of these things that I've said that I know,

The wind, sky and earth, the storms and the snow.

Best say that you have - and then we'll be one,

For we will have shared that same blazing sun." - David Bouchard

Hi Amanda <wave>

I don't really know anything about Nutri System, will be interested to see if anyone has ever tried it!

Nothing wrong with getting someone else to do the food preparation for you!

I haven't heard anything really amazing about Nutrisystem. You could get the same kind of foods from your grocers freezer if you want premade foods that don't carry the amount of fat and stuff that regular foods do. With nutrisystem you're kind of paying a lot for low quality foods.

Nutrisystem is known to work along with excersise, but again, you need to keep it up.

If you like convenience may I suggest perhaps making something on Sunday to take to work with you? You can buy those single serving ziploc containers and you can make a soup that yields only 100 calories per serving. At least you know what you're putting in it. Nutrisystem is like hungryman meals for dieters imo.

But she just said she wants someone to portion her meals like she is a baby - not spend hours on a Sunday cooking  (unless you get a chef in to cook the weeks meals and freeze them!)

Oh I am sure you are right about it probably tasting shitty. It is expensive too, that is true.

As far as cooking on a Sunday, I can tell you that A)I'm not a very good cook and B) I only get two days off a week and by Friday I'm exhausted. Sunday is my day to do absolutely nothing. I guess what I'm saying is that I know I won't do it, even if I wanted to.

I guess I might go look in the supermarket freezer for pre-planned meals that are low calorie.

Of course I will couple this with exercise.

I just really want to actually lose weight.

I thought you might find this article interesting, just stumbled upon it:

http://abcnews.go.com/Health/Diet/story?id...7335&page=1

I noticed this weekend when I put on my favourite pair of jeans they barely did up and when I got them buttoned up I couldn't breathe :crying: I definitely let loose over the holidays and ate whatever I wanted. I did join LA fitness a few weeks back to take advantage of the classes but my tummy grew over the past few weeks. I didn't even weigh myself but when I couldn't get my jeans on I knew it! Before I moved here they fit perfectly.

Do the premade grocery low calorie freezer meals then. Couple that with those 100 calorie snack packs for in between meal hunger, a couple of pieces of fresh fruit a day, lots of water and you will be able to do it.

Well making soup doesn't take hours. Its about 20-30 mins of prep time and then let it cook.

I used to make myself single serving soups for the week before I didn't have lunch supplied for me at work, it didn't take long at all.

But since Amanda doesn't feel she is a good cook, the option would be low calorie freezer meals over nutrisystem.

That is probably want I am going to do. Probably a better option eh? I'm sure the food on these programs isn't all that great for you either.

I bought a bunch of slimfast shakes from target on the weekend. I opened one this morning and I have to say it is one of the most disgusting drinks I've ever had. haha I'm going to return them.

Yes! Slimfast tastes like shiiite! Omg!

I bought a case last year and I thought it was sour so I took it back and exchanged it, and still got the same taste! No, its not spoiled it just tastes like it is.

Thats why I choose to work out behind the skinny bitches at the gym Amanda. I tell ya it honestly does wonders. If only they knew the kinds of words I speak about them in my mind while running on a tread mill.

Well actually I bought a treadmill for my house I just haven't picked it up yet. Again, now that I live in a town with 6 thousand people, god knows where the closest gym is. I'm looking forward to exercising at my own convenience. The only skinny bi tches I will be working out behind will be on MTV ! :D

 you two

Yeah, I think the pre-made frozen are probably just as good. I had a quick look at the Nutri System site and at the nutritional labels on their meals, looks pretty much like the stuff you would expect to find in the pre-packaged frozen foods section.

You know what might be handy, is to go to the NS website and make up a meal plan with their foods for a week and then just look for similar caloried items at the grocery store.
