Here is a link to the government workers pay for ny state. If you want to see why it cost you $35,000 or more to send you kids to college check out what the professors get . There is a truckload of people making 2-3 times their wages in overtime pay. This is just one state and not our federal government.

NJ too. The single largest source of waste is in the sheer number of people working for the government (state, muni, etc.) and their inflated pension packages.

I have said this for a long time, americans have lost the concept of the real value of money. Everything is based on fictional numbers and have nothing to do with reality. Credit isn't real but people have been treating it as cash on hand for far too long. At some point all lending institutions considered this as reality too. Our relationship with money has become completely dysfunctional. When we don't have any or enough we just ask some bank for more fictional money to buy things outside of our means that we didn't need in the first place.

That's what makes this country so great. Let the Chinese pay for everything.

What needs to happen specifically is that we need average person wages to jump massively while top-level wages plummet to offset this. If you think that is going to happen quickly or easily your are in fantasy land. We also need to get out of free trade agreements. We will need to see things like college tuitions, which have only been supported by an absurd bubble on loan-taking, plummet. Yes, plummet. And with endowments plummeting while tuitions plummet while donations, which are required en masse by most colleges and universities just to operate, plummet as well, it will, needless to say, get ugly for our higher learning institutions.

I was in agreement with the article up until this point.

If the profits are forcibly taken from business owners and transfered to employees via higher wages, where will the incentive be to operate a business? Businesses establish only when there is a demand and a market of profitability. When the prospect of profit is diminished coercively, then all that remains is the demand. This will cause the 100 dollar loaf of bread, because the incentive to create the supply is gone.

Onto the so-called "free trade" agreements. First, free trade doesn't require a lengthy lawyer-written agreement. We don't have genuine free trade. We have tariffs and import quotas to protect inefficient American businesses. This props up these costly American businesses that cannot cut it in the free-market. This artificially raises prices, and the only person that suffers is the consumer.
