I just received my 2-year conditional green card. All the docs (passport, green card, SSN card, driving license) are under my maiden name. We wanted to change my name after we were married but do not want any complications due to that, thus we file everything with my maiden name.

Now both my husband and I want to change my name but we are not sure how it will impact the lifting of condition in 2 years time. This is our plan:

1. Go to court and get my name changed

2. Get my name changed for my SSN card, driving license, etc

3. File for removing of condition with my new name

Any advise would be appreciated.

Thanks

My wife is having the same problem. I don't think you need to go to court to officially change your name, just ask to change it with the correct agencies. But that can be more complicated than it needs to be. We first went to the BMV (IN) to change her driver's license, but they needed a SS card with the new name. So we went to the SS office and they needed the Green Card to have her married name. So we went to DHS, and they gave us the name change form, but it carries a fee and they said since we would have to file a I-751 in the next few months, we should just wait and change her name on that form. Good idea, but I am now not sure how to go about it. Should we put her married name in the personal information section and her maiden name in the aliases section, or the other way around, or do we need to file something else?
