I want to know what is advance parole(AP)? Is it necessary to apply for this. In what instances can AP be used? Your ideas are highly appreciated.

It allows travel while waiting for adjustment of status.

Leave the USA without it and you will be starting all over, this time filing for a spousal visa, and kiss the $1010 paid for AOS good bye.

Since it costs nothing when applied for with AOS or after, many simply apply for on to have just in case.

Moving this to the Working/Travel prior to green-card forum.

So, what if I have the greencard already...does this mean that I don't need AP anymore?

Green-card replaced AP doc, and EAD.

The green-card allows re-entry to the USA from trips abroad, and also allows trips to Canada, Mexico, and most of the Caribbean without a visa.

I-131 is only filed for a re-entry permit, by a green-card holder if they plan to travel abroad for more than 1 year but less than 2.

Your timeline and profile are confusing.

Timeline shows getting the visa last month, it is not possible to have a green-card yet and profile still indicates K-1, not AOS approved. http://www.visajourney.com/forums/index.ph...rCP&CODE=01

It is a good idea to apply for the AP along with the AOS. It costs nothing and it provides you with the option to leave and safely return to the US while waiting for your AOS to be approved. If there was an emergency overseas and your wife needed to return home immediately (ie imminent death of a parent or sibling) you would lose a few days trying to get an emergency AP (as well as having to pay a separate fee) and perhaps miss the opportunity to say goodbye. With the AP you can make plans to leave immediately. If your AOS is not processed in a timely way (mine took nearly 2 years) your wife would not be able to leave the US at all during that time for holidays, for family visits or for business reasons. If she did she would be denied re-entry and you would have to start the whole visa process over again from the beginning. The AP is like insurance - you hope you don't need it but you are very glad to have it if you do.

“...Isn't it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about? It just makes me feel glad to be alive--it's such an interesting world. It wouldn't be half so interesting if we knew all about everything, would it? There'd be no scope for imagination then, would there?”
