I'm trying to get things rounded up for the consulate before things get too crazy here and here's where you all come in! I think I've read elsewhere that people have taken the I-134 to Juarez in place of the somewhat general public charge form they provide you. I just wanted confirm that fact with someone who has been through Juarez recently because I'm planning to take the I-134 for myself and a co-sponsor. Also, any other tips you have for the whole Juarez experience would be great. I've read the Juarez threads but am interested in info from people who have been there recently. !Muchisimas gracias!

Sorry - I'm not clear on your question. The USC needs to fill out and have notarized the I-134 affadavit of support before the interview. As far as I understand, this is true for virtually all consulates. This should be included in your fiance visa packet.

Regarding CDJ, I have not been there yet but have read a few important things that may help you:

1) Get the medical the day before the interview - go early and come back at 2 to pick up results

2) You can pay the interview fee in advance at any Banamex - take your receipt to the interview

3) No fiances are allowed at the interview

Hope that helps

Ok, maybe I wasn't clear but if you look at the CDJ website, the K1 petition/interview process does not require the I-134 but some kind of generic "public charge" sheet. I am planning to take the I-134 since I'm going to have a co-sponsor, just to be safe. I just wanted to make sure that taking the I-134 is in fact acceptable.

karamitchell,

You weren't clear, and I haven't looked at the CDJ web site, but I suspect that you are missing something.

One of the requirements for a K visa is that the applicant meet the public charge provisions of the law as a non-immigrant. There is a form DS-2000, formerly numbered OF-167, titled something like 'Evidence That May Be Presented To Meet The Public Charge Provisions Of The Law' It is an informational form that tells one what the requirements of the law are and what kinds of evidence may be presented. One type of evidence is an affidavit of support, and one may use either the USCIS form I-134 or an affidavit of their own making as long as it contains the required information (although I don't expect that anyone has ever made up their own form rather than use I-134.) Does that sound like what you've seen on the web site?

While I-134 is not a required piece of evidence except at the discretion of the consular officer, the anecdotal evidence is overwhelming that consular officers universally exercise their discretion to require an I-134 except in cases where the visa applicant is financially strong enough to not require a sponsor anyway.

Long way of saying that taking an I-134 is not only acceptable, in most cases it's essential.

Yodrak,

You're right: Juarez just lists that it requires form OF-167, Public Charge Information, but there is no mention of the I-134 anywhere on form OF-167 or in the fiance visa section of Juarez's website. I guess the supporting documents requested on form OF-167 and the I-134 are similar, but are not exactly the same. In light of this, I'm still hoping that taking the I-134 is more than sufficient. It seems to give a wider breadth of financial information than what is stated on the OF-167. If any recent Juarez visitors can chime in, please do! Thanks.

We went through Juarez last Feb. Although you do not need the I-134 form you need all the evidence that goes along with it. We had it anyway. I mean its so simple to fill out, just do it. Bring all the evidence you can. I had an employment letter, bank letter, investment papers, life insurance papers, real estate papers, and tax papers. All they ask for was the letter from work and the bank, and my tax papers. Oh yeah, they took the I-134 also. I have heard they have taken less from others and more from others. So bring everything you can. Good luck and dont worry. It will be cake.

The I-134 is NOT required for Juarez. HOWEVER, the consulate does recommend filling one out for your interview. You DO need to prove that your fiancee will not be a public charge, and they may turn your application down if you do not have sufficient evidence. I emailed the consulate before we went, and they told me the easiest thing was to bring an I-134. They did not even look at it at the interview, but better safe than sorry!!! suerte :)

karamitchell,

Versions of OF-167 that I've seen do mention affidavits of support and the I-134 in particular. The other responders to your post have described the situation quite nicely and it would appear from what they've written about the policy of the consulate in Juarez that Juarez is an excellent example of how the financial requirement for a K visa should work.

Yodrak
