SSA issues a person a SSN for life, it is still valid.

You need to update SSA of immigrations change when you get a green-card, and when you become a US citizen.

You now only need to contact SSA if your name has changed since your SSN card was issued and you intend to work using the new name, your card has “NOT VALID FOR EMPLOYMENT” printed on it and you now have work authorized status or you need to replace the card due to it being lost or damaged.

However, you cannot be issued a new card unless you have work authorized status regardless of the reason you want a new card.

Ditto on the new card with permanent residency and update record with U.S. citizenship.
