Obtaining Visa after relinquishing Greencard

Does anyone know if an Australian would need a visa from the American Consulate in Sydney if they had relinquished permanent residency but later wished to spend a month with their USC in the USA visiting family?

Would a visa waiver is still be an option? Obviously a return ticket would be purchased but if retired, I am not sure how one would prove ties to Australia.

Does anyone have any knowledge they can share

I am pretty sure you can still visit the USA if you have given up residency. You do not need a visa to come into America to visit for the first 3 months.

Is this for yourself? Since you've come so far already I would try and wait it out another year, then file for naturalization. Once you obtain your citizenship you're free to come and go as you please.

Thanks for your help Charles, sorry I didnt think. I still dont think i have the hang of this board properly..... maybe I should read the help files!

I also have a problem with my timeline.... and I cant figure out what I have done wrong

Now back to the OP, yes it is for me, I wondered if the visa waiver is still applicable after being an immigrant, but cant seem to find a definitive answer. If it isnt then flying to Sydney everytime I want a visa would be a pia

The VWP is still applicable to you but like I said earlier, I wouldn't give up your residency so easily like that. If your circumstances ever changed and you needed to move back to the US do you really want to go through the trouble & expense of re-obtaining your green card again? I know I wouldnt..
