A question for all of you who talk about going back to your home countries: would you be able to find a job easily once there? I know that for me there would be no way to find another job at my age, especially in the current climate. If for you it would be easier, I am really happy for you.... When I left Italy in mid-November, I knew there was no going back, and this is why I want to make the US my home.

It is a good question!

I have an american degree in Accounting. The accounting system is different here than in France, my chance of finding a job is slim unless I get my CPA and become the best of the best lol! So, I dunno...I am trying to become good at what I like: auditing and we will see where that leads me.

But you are right, age is an issue. I wish you the best! Did you find a job you like here?

AOS Approved on 10-17-08 (details in profile)

Removal of Conditions on 07-19-10

In this tedious process, we tend to forget that this is all worth it.

I love my hubby beyond anything in this world.

I have been here since November 19, and have yet to apply for AOS. I don't really have any urgent need to work here, but along the way I'd like to do something - either in the language teaching or translation field, or starting a small business of my own involving crafts. However, in Italy I lived on my own, and the cost of living was considerably higher for me than it is here. And let's not even talk about the job I had there.

I hope you find something you like when you are ready, Highway Star.

i would prefer to stay here for a while until hubby retires from his job and then we would go back to the Philippines and enjoy our retirement benefits there. I love Manila, but I am beginning to like it here because of the peace and quiet. We like the privacy. maybe if we move back, it would be in Baguio City or maybe back to my hometown in Isabela. -- Rocky

Baguio city would be nice if they would ban all the taxis  getting too polluted.

Me and the lady agreed for now that we'll work until retired and go back to the Philippines. IMHO, I know the money that I save for retirement would last longer there and during that time I hope I already have a nice place paid for with all the years working hehe.

I like our life in the US - no desire to go back to Germany right now.

However, I miss my 6 weeks paid vacation and the health insurance security I had there. I don't mind working long hours if I get a decent vacation in between. In the US I have a 50 hour week, too, but haven't had more than 5 days in a row off since I'm working - I'm getting burned out...

It would be very hard if not impossible for my husband to find a job in Germany.

I'd forever live home, in Romania. I envy those who have less powerfull roots, the world citizens. I think that is somth u r born with. stronger or weaker roots home. but I also know is not a realist thought. My husband can't even say my name right, so for him to learn the language to live and work here wouldnt be possible. we decided to move here at least when we r old and retired. I comfort myself with the thought I'll visit here often, but with the short american vacation times, not so sure about that. is also scary the thought to raise my kids in another culture, language and so on, but life brought me on this path so i'll try to make the best out of it. our secret hope is to at least move in another country in europe. my husband works like a maniac to publish and have enough of his science going onto apply for good job here. I'll use the time to continue studies in USA and gather some more experience to hope for a good job in europe too. that way we would live closer to my family, and would have more time to visit both home countries.
