Hi all! First I wanted to say how incredibly helpful this board has been. I'm a US citizen madly in love with my British fiance. When we fell in love I had no idea what to expect when it came time for us to discuss the ins and outs of him moving here. I was completely overwhelmed by the amount of information on the net and this website was the only one I found that broke things down in simple terms. And reading so many great stories on the forum really kept my spirits up and made me realize that doing this on my own without a lawyer was completely possible. It also made me feel "normal", as most of you have probably experienced,others view our relationship with quite a bit of skepticism. Luckily my family has been incredibly supportive and my fiance Scott and I have very strong relationship (and some whopping phone bills!). Today was the big day, I sent our paperwork to the Vermont Service Center and our fingers are firmly crossed that this will be a smooth journey.

Timeline: 13 month long journey from filing to visa in hand

If you were lucky and got an approval and reunion with your loved one rather quickly; Please refrain from telling people who waited 6+ months just to get out of a service center to "chill out" or to "stop whining" It's insensitive,and unecessary. Once you walk a mile in their shoes you will understand and be heard.
