Current passport required to remove conditions?

Does anyone know know whether a current passport is needed to remove conditions on permanent residency? My wife's Korean passport expires this month, but we need to file I-751. She is not planning on leaving the United States anytime soon, so is it okay to let her passport expire until she needs to travel outside the country?

current passport is not a requirement.... does she have other forms of valid ID?

Passport can be expired, it is not a requirement for removal of conditions.
