This may sound strange as most applicants are trying to obtain visas as quickly as possible. I filed for my wife in June and after 6 months of nothing, I graduated school and just moved to be with her (in Argentina). We were among those transferred to CSC in dec, so I expect approval within a few weeks. Since I am already here, have my legal residence ( it took about 2 weeks) and have a job here; and given the current economic situation in the US we want to stay here awhile (12-18 months), but don't want to withdraw our application in the US. I guess we will drag our feet through the NVC and try to stretch out the process.

Does anybody know how long we can/should delay without risk of being withdrawn? How does schedueling the interview work? Can we ask for a later appointment? I know we have 6 months to immigrate from the day the visa is issued, if we were to enter and get the conditional green card, how long can we leave the country before running into problems?

Once the file reaches NVC you have 1 year to submit your docs so you can stall for time at that point with no problems. We were approved in September and I knew that I wanted to go to Nepal in May and have us come back together through POE in July, so I took some time submitting everything so less than 6 months will pass between issuance of CR-1 visa and POE. I work in academia so could not go earlier than after the end of the semester in May - wish I could also go for his interview but doesn't look like that will be possible :( .

Drag feet at the NVC stage, you can call NVC and ask about this they will hold the case up to a year for you.

Asked before. http://www.visajourney.com/forums/index.ph...=167118&hl=

problems can begin as early as 6 mos.... a re-entry permit is required after 12 mos.
??? Op is asking about delaying a CR-1 interview.

OUR TIME LINE Please do a timeline it helps us all, thanks.

If I were in your situation, I would withdraw the application at this point explaining the situation, and when you want to return together to the US just do Direct Consular Filing, which is a fairly quick and easy process :)

(see comparison chart between visas for more info on this option)

The problem with doing the DCF comes in the way of the I-864. Income derived from out of country ,from the petitioner, can not be used for support. And if moving back to USA, foreign income will not continue from source. I gave up on the DCF myself. Would advise to look into it further , before making that decision.
