Hi everyone,

This is so sad and hard for me to write. I don't know if there is anyone out there that can help in this type of situation. Or just someone going through something similar to comfort us. I wrote to our governor, because I couple we know were in a similar situation, and the governor's office helped them. But what else can we do??

Up until October 15th of 2008, I had a good job, I was working and I was able to make do with bills etc on my salary alone. However I am now unemployed. I have injured myself and am trying to recover. I have lost my health insurance, from losing my job, as with the ability to pay my bills. My husband is at a loss because he is not able to work because he is not allowed to without the work permit. We do not know how we are going to pay our bills, let along pay for the fees to send out his paperwork. We are totally stuck. He can't work until we send out his papers, and I can't work to come up with the money to send out the papers because of the fees. We don't know what to do. We want to follow the law and do things the right way. We realize that the laws are there for EVERYONE to follow. We want to be able to process these papers so that we can try to get out of this stuck position. We have done the immigration process correctly and lawfully up until this point where we are stuck. We only need help getting over this hurdle so that my husband can legally work.

Thanks for reading and thanks for any comments.

We wish all of VJ a happy and prosperous New Year!

Shannon and Marco

I am so sorry to hear about your situation :(

Is there any way you can find a temporary job, maybe from home since you are injured? That way you can collect enough money to send out the papers so Marco can start working..

Are you elegible for unemployment benefit?

Maybe you can get a loan for the money you need to file the papers and when Marco will be able to work you can pay it off..

I'm just thinking of some suggestions, but I mostly wanted to let you know that you can make it. You are together, and together you'll find the right solution for this hard moment.

I wish you guys all the best and a fast recovery.

Hang in there.

Is there anyone who can co-sponsor your husband? If so, you may still be able to file. USCIS allows a waiver of the AOStatus fee for some cases: "In all fee waiver requests applicants are required to demonstrate an "inability to pay."

Here's the USCIS page on it. The work permit/AOSupport thing is quite the catch-22 for married couples! Best wishes to you and your husband!
