No matter how many times people come back to post to warn others of gc fraud - no one will ever think it will happen to them regardless of the warning signs. Visa process seems to romanticize much and cloud much rational thinking.

Unfortunately I agree that I think posts warning people really does no good. I think people should by all means post about their experiences to be able to vent/get support, but to think it will make anyone stop and rethink their situation? Highly unlikely.

That being said... I'm so sorry that has happened to you, Wendy. I've often thought of you and hoped you were enjoying your first time here with your husband. *hugs*

5 yrs huh  well my first husband lasted 7 and he was american

ditto - and 8. The second time I married him! LOL!

Sorry this happend to you. Divorce feels like death no matter the reason, only time and strength of character (with your circle of friends/family) will get you through! I hope your circle here helps comfort your broken heart. :(

I would like to make the point that there are just as many same-country frauds out there looking for a free ride as there are immigrants - for both sexes.

Rajaa it pains me to see you put the '4 year mark' on this. In actuality, they call it the '5 year plan'.

I'm so sorry to hear of things like this happening. (F)

Unfortunately, being used is a risk you take when you lower your guard and allow yourself to love someone....whatever country they're from. It's not a risk that's unique to Visa Journey, although I will say, this process makes it *very difficult* to really get to know someone prior to marriage.

An American man can misrepresent himself and his intentions just as easily as a foreign man can (just ask me about my American ex-husband...he had me in a very similar situation as the person who started this thread!).

Many a wealthy older gentleman has realized the same about his much younger wife/girlfriend.

Just as there are gold diggers out there, there are visa diggers, and people who marry for a variety of other ulterior motives aside from love. Sad but true.

I for one am not sorry I took that leap of faith. I realize I'm not "out of the woods" so to speak, but I think no one ever is really. A marriage is a work in progress. The past couple years with my husband have been the most wonderful in my lifetime and I certainly hope I never look back and think differently.

ROC Journey:

01/19/2010 - Mailed ROC paperwork to Vermont Service Center

01/21/2010 - ROC package arrived at VSC

01/26/2010 - Check cashed

01/28/2010 - Received NOA, GC extended for 1 year

02/25/2010 - Biometrics taken

04/23/2010 - Conditions lifted! :)

05/01/2010 - Ten-year GC received...on hubby's birthday! Yay!

Bottomline is to enjoy life all you can. My first trip to the Philippines was to meet a lady I met online. After 2 weeks I discovered she was a complete scammer!

She was a lot younger than me and beautiful with a tight hard body. I had a GREAT time with her and she was worth EVERY penny I spent on her.

Bottomline is you older women with a younger trim man enjoy him all you can while it last. Who knows it may last a long time.

If not get as much as you can before he gets his GC!!

Take a break and then go get another!

Okay, this statement made me laugh. But the sad truth is that many women give so much of themselves that they don't want to admit that all they get in return is enough to keep her hooked.

My husband had another friend that was using women for money, as well as looking for someone to get him the greencard. He told us that it was his job. He earned money by talking to these women. He felt no guilt whatsoever because he felt they owed it to him because he took time out of his life to entertain them. Of course he avoids the issue that he was lying to them to get the money. It's just so wrong.

I think this type is found in tourist areas - sounds exactly like my ex who was passing himself off as a 'trekking guide' despite the fact that he didn't even know what to do when he himself came down with altitude sickness...

eta: he never worked through agencies b/c he had a fake license and mostly seemed to like mooching money off people and trying to charm women. He was so egotistical that he had a photo album full of photos only showing himself, taken by his numerous foreign 'friends' - he loved to show this album to anyone who came to visit.

I think that posting the heartbreaks is very helpful. I am one of the people that it took hold of and said "hey, stop and ttake a look at things". I can't change the fact that I married this man and that he is here but there are "issues" that we are dealing with. These issues are not really any different than any "normal" couple would go through BUT my eyes are a little bit more wide in my situation due to reading the horror stories from the people who have suffered their spouses leaving them after they got the GC. I am enjoying what I have while I have it but at the same time I'm preparing for the worst. If he leaves, i'll be very sad but nobody can say.."hey, I warned you" coz I'm fully prepared for it to be a possibility. Honestly, I am an extremely paranoid person and I prepared myself with my first husband in the same ways and he was an american. If he leaves, I'm ready to tackle it. If he stays, I'll continue loving him as much as I possibly can every day he's here. It will hurt if he leaves but it is gonna be one of those posts that is like.... well, my time is up now, he served his time but mann ooo mannnnn was it a great ride lol!!!

I'm just odd that way though. I don't like to be made a fool of so I always prepare for the worst case scenarios.
