We applied for socical security number yesterday. It was a crowded place and we had to wait for almost an hour and a half to see the representative. Keeping my finger cross to get the SSN ASAP so I can go ahead and file the taxes in time.

Zoharulz - I agree with JulianDavid an infopass appointment can be beneficial in your case.

I had applied for my SSN but not received it yet when my husband submitted our taxes. The accountant just had us put "applied for" in the spot for my SSN and told us that the IRS would be able to find out what it was when my number got assigned. I guess it worked because we got the tax return cheque. Maybe you can do that if you don'thave your number before you have to file.

When you applied for the SSN, did you tell you when you would be able to receive your card. I had my biometrics on March 13th and waiting to hear from CRIS regarding the EAD/AP. I hope they don't deny it. Since my wife is waiting for my SSN for filing of the taxes, I am curious to know how long it would take to receive the SSN once applied for it.

On Friday I received my step-daughter's NOA for the transfer of her AOS case to the CSC, so both cases are still being handled in the same manner! It was dated the same (March 16th) but just a day later in the mail.

Hello January filers! Congratulation to everybody who got good news! Also I wish luck to the people who have their upcomming interviews.

Today I received AP, it is two pages. Also I was very surprised to get the letter about my case transfer! Almost two months later since my NOA1. It says "this is to advise you that in order to speed up processing we have transferred the above case to the following USCIS office for processing: California Service Center...." Well, I am not sure about the speed...seems like they are very slow on some cases... But hopefully it will go fast.

congrats on the AP and the transfer. I also am not sure it is any faster going to the CSC, but I am in the same boat as you with that one. Now I hope our AP comes next week since we seem to be a week or so behind your schedule of filing.

Did you get two papers with the same info? Levi did so we weren't sure if that was the norm since it says its good for multiple trips. He ended up with three biometrics letters with two different dates too lol so maybe just duplicates by accident.

Yes, I got two copies as well. Also got my EAD card yesterday...it's all happening now

Hi, can u create ur timeline please? You said you got your EAD card but it cannot be traced because you have not created one. Congrats on getting your card and all the best for your interview.

saspak - they told us that it usually takes two weeks to get SSN, but people have reported getting it sooner. I will keep you and others posted with updates.

updated for happy girl's AP and case transfer... if there are updates that are not yet here, pls let us know... EAD and AP dates are mostly "production ordered" dates.

That is good news, at least you wouldn't be worrying about your daughter's case getting lost.

Got my AP in the mail over the weekend. Rather dull sheet of paper with my mugshot. I'll never use it but nice to have another step ticked off......

I knew things were going too smoothly . I received my AP in the mail today and i think they messed up the pic!! They put the pic of my wife who is the USC!!

Atleast i think they got it wrong shoudnt the pic be of the non-usc???

Anyideas what i should do now??

Of course AP should have your picture, not your wife's! I wonder where they got her picture from, since you were supposed to send only your pictures with the package of documents. Try to either to make an infopass appointment at the local office or try to call USCIS first and talk to the immigration officer there (not just the operator since they are not much of a help)

I am sharing the same thoughts.. I thought the picture on the AP document and EAD card would be the one they took at biometrics. I would agree would the infopass suggestion. Hope you get it sorted out soon.

We had our biometrics last march 3,2009. We still didn't have any update on our case both e-mail and snail mail. I was looking through some of January filers and their progress is so steady...I am a bit worried now!

Haaay! I hope we will something this week about our case...

I see you all talk about SSN and taxes. Why would we, non US citizens, file our taxes since we are not able to work yet? I don't understand. Do we have to file them with our US spouse? Do we need to pay for something?

Yes, we can file jointly with our US spouses (as long as we have SSN) and we don't have to pay anything extra. I filed jointly with my husband for two reasons: firstly, it will be a good supporting document for our marriage when we go to the interview, and secondly, the tax return amount was twice more than if my husband had filed single
