Hi guys, want to take a mini-break with Phuong somewhere in Vietnam. Doesn't matter where, just need a break from her house. She lives in HCMC and we have been to Ha Noi, Da Lat, and Nha Trang. Somewhere else we should visit together? Don't want to break the bank here, just a nice peaceful getaway. And of course, she is of no help because she has traveled in her country less than me! Thanks

Jonas

Vung Tau is about 2-3 hour car drive from HCMC, it's not quite up to par as Nha Trang but it's closer to HCMC and they got decent beaches. It's a beach catered to locals more as appose to Nha where it's more catered to westerners. There are quite a bit of things to check out there in Vung Tau. Also if you want to travel further and spend little bit more money my wife recommends going to Da Nang, I haven't been there but my wife says she has and it's supposedly much cleaner than Nha Trang. Have fun on your Mini Vacation!

we stayed in Mui Ne Bay - Phan Thiet for 4 days, it was pretty nice. if your into wind surfing or want to learn they have it here (just watching was fine for me) We paid 70.00 per night in 2006. There are at least 10-15 hotel up and down the Beach. but we like this one the most as we look at about 4 of them. Oh they have a Nice breakfast also included.

Below is a link to TripAdvisor reviews of the hotels/resorts in Phan Thiet. We always stayed at the Phu Hai Resort in their beach front villas (great free breakfast buffet), but this was back in 2005. I'm sure the selection of resorts has grown since then.

I'd go to Vung Tau using those ancient Russian jet boat thingies. It's cheap, fun, and you get there in about an hour and a half in airplane-like comfort, rather than 2 or 3 hours in Vietnam traffic. If memory serves me correctly, I believe you can catch a boat right there in Sector 1, right downtown. Phuong ought to know, anyway.

Hue is very nice. Hoi An is much more touristy. We stopped in Da Nang to go to some Cham museum there and to eat. Looked like a shithole to me, but what do I know?

mui ne is a nice getaway place. i stayed @ carnary resort. it was along the main strip, literaly 20 steps from our hotel room to the beach. it was like 30 bucks a night. private beach, swimming pool with swin up bar. took the bus from saigon, for like 5 bucks. the bus ride was advertised as 4 hrs but closer to 6hrs. i would check tripadvisor.com for possible better accomidations.

I agree with Green/Tran!

Hunt down videos on Youtube! Phu Quoc is a great getaway as its far enough away from everything else to be exotic but still close enough to get there easily. Either by flying from HCMC or by bus to Rach Gia, and then by 2+ hour ferry, it is pretty affordable by our standards. What I enjoyed was that I was able to have my own moped to drive (a feat impossible for me on the mainland ...thanks to my inlaws concern and worry for my safety).

Diving, snorkeling, and beautiful beaches, affordable hotels..what more could you want for a romantic getaway?? HIGHLY RECOMMEND after visting Nha Trang, Vung Tau, Moi Ne, and various other coastal beaches in Vietnam and around the world.
