I havfound any specific topics relating to this in the forums, your input is appreciated.

we have our Aos interview on January 15th at the St Albans VT office. The letter we recieved says my wife is to bring:

Current passport

I-94

EAD (if any)

Advance paraole (if any)

THAT IS IT!!!!!!!!! ?????? Ok, I have been told we would have to bring documents regarding to our life together, ie. bank documents, joint ownership of property, etc. What gives? She does not yet have the advance parole or EAD so basically she is to bring her passport and I-94 (and a copy of the letter they sent)

I am tempted to treat this as an IRS audit and bring ONLY what they say, but the other voice is telling me to bring our supporting documents and leave them in the car. What does the forum think? Is this normal? Abnormal? It seems as if they are asking us to bring, basically, nothing. Your input is appreciated.

Thanks

Gay and Alla,

You need to bring the supporting documents, such as joint bank account, joint lease, insurances, certified copy of marriage license, passport, I-94, birth certificate, pay stubs, employment letter from employer, W-2s and tax returns. All the things that you need to bring will be listed on the interview notice that you'll receive in the mail. I think it's better if you bring everything that you can think of to the interview.

Hope this helps

Well, that is just it. I HAVE the letter and the "list" says exactly what I stated, nothing else! Of course, they have our certified copy of the marriage certificate, I sent that with the I-485 filing. I have the "interview letter" and date and time for the interview but nothing "listed" except the passport and I-94 (plus "copy of this letter" and AP and EAD "if applicable") We do not have either of those so that means we need the letter, passport and I-94!!!

I have other supporting documents of course, bank accounts, tax returns, employment verification, joint ownership of vehicles, etc. But I was NOT asked or "listed" to bring ANY of this to the interview. My plan at the time is to take what I have and leave it in the car, if they ask for it I can get it. I know some people get the AOS without an interview so I didn't know if there were different "levels" of documentation they ask for.

You need to take all originals of what you submitted in your AOS packet, that means birth certificates, marriage certificates, etc...

One of the checkpoints is the I-864, letter from employer plust LAST 2 months pay stubs from sponsor.

The letter also says supporting documents for proof of bonafide marriage, you should bring those in - just take them in, don't leave them in the car.

Did you make copies of all the forms you submitted? It wouldn't hurt to take those in so that you have facts in front of you as well.

Thank you Alex:

But just to be clear, the appointment letter I have does NOT say anything about supporting documents or originals for ANYthing.

I don't wish to play games with these people and I do not want our case to be delayed just because of some clerical error or because an affirmative action hiree forget to put something in the letter or envelope (even though we live only minutes from the CIS office) so I will bring what I have. We have nothing to hide, we have a very good and legitimate marriage and I make plenty of money (with the I864 I sent the employent letter and 1 year's paystubs) and YES I have copies of everything I ever sent to USCIS, so I will heed your advice. In a couple weeks I will give everyone an update on what happens.

that's why I'm confused as well, I wonder if they send different types of letters - mine has a section saying "Who Should Come with you" and another saying "You must bring the following items with you", I also received a supplement in the envelope detailing what to bring in the case of prior arrests

That's what I wondered. I know some people do not even have an interview. One personal aquaintance of mine got her green card (through K-1) without an interview. The letter does say she (my wife) should be accompanied by "her petitioner" and for her son he is directed to be accompanied by myself and his mother. No mention of any arrest documents (sorry, don't have any of those) and the only separate section is the one listing for her to bring the passport and I-94. Incidently, her son received the same letter and requested the same documents (or lack thereof). So I will play it safe and bring everything. My only concern with these people is that if I arrive with a stack of documents they ust might want to go through the whole stack. Again, nothing to hide but I do not want to invite a marathon interview either. Oh well, better safe than sorry.

I too will be interested in your story afterwards. Do these letters come from a USCIS headquarters-type (or central) location, or from local centers where the interviews actually occur? If the latter, could that explain the variances? Is this the reason why there's no generic "pinned" VJ thread on "what to bring to the AOS interview"? Are the requirements of what to bring decided on a case-by-case basis ahead of time, by USCIS or the local office? (I haven't scoped the AOS guides on here recently, admittedly.) Inquiring minds want to know, si man.

06-04-2007 = TSC stamps postal return-receipt for I-129f.

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).
