Getting Married Too Young

Also like Gemmie and Laura, I didn't expect to get married at 23, but immigration and an ocean got in my way. We probably would have gotten married one year later if we hadn't had to deal with USCIS and the atlantic. I didn't see a point in spending another year apart when we were going to get married anyways. Putting a number on when someone is mature enough seems silly. There are plenty of adults that never mature past an adolescent level. Life experiences are nice, but most of the experiences that make or break relationships and test who you are as a person occur AFTER a marriage. I think marriage is a chance and you need to place your bets on the best odds. Find the person you are most compatible with and have shared interests etc. with and do it when you feel you are ready. 1/2 the time it won't work and 1/2 it will.

mmmm I was married the 1st time at 21. I knew what I was doing (as in ready to commit and ready to "be" married) but the one thing I hadn't developed yet was an ability to judge character I think. I fell in love with someone who was flashy and romantic, but who had no character, he made choices and decisions based on what was easiest and the least painful route for him regardless of how it impacted me or those around him.

Flash forward 7 years later.. the guy I was looking for then, was a completely different man. I was looking for deep and historic character, someone who had made the right decisions (no matter how hard they might be), consistently.

For me age has brought my ability to discern and honed my skills of what's really important. those things I valued at 20 no longer matter anymore.. I think you can be ready for marriage at 20, but do you have the skills and ability to pick the best partner for your life? For myself I have to say I didn't.

I'm 29 and sometimes my wife says I act like a 12 year-old... :star:

What is your real name, BTW?

I am the terror that flaps in the night...

Oh come on....how many years have we been conversing here in OT now? Nobody's going to find out your address or anything.

SHUT UP

I thought DP was circa 46....

I thought deadpool was older than that too

Well... back in my day, we didn't have these here fancy type writers! No sir, we used ink quill pens! While walking forty miles in the snow in our underwear! We couldn't afford a pool -- had to use the neighbor's septic tank. We were tough, unlike you young folk today!
