Ok. Bit of a problem. My fiance, the USC, has a recent job, since july. She makes 8$ an hour (although starting january 1st she has been promoted to 9$ an hour). Her weekly hours fluctuate between 30 to 40 hours a week.

Now, quick calculations. We need 125% of the poverty level, which is 17 500$. The only way for her to be over that limit is at 9$ an hour, working 40 hours that week. This is very borderline :( and i dont think it'll be enough on its own to be accepted at the interview.

Let's say for a moment that a co-sponsor would not be available. Would the consulate accept my (the beneficiary) assets? Say i've saved up 8k$, i own my own car (all paid off, bought new, its a 2005 model), would that carry any weight with the consulate's decision?

I also plan on applying for a job as soon as i'm authorized to do so, and i have been looking at a few job postings that i would have good chances of getting as i have extensive experience in the field and have all the qualifications necessary, one of the job even asks for french / english bilingual, which i am. Would any of that carry any weight, to show that yes i am interested in earning my keep, and i'm proactively looking for employment?

Or are they very strict about the 125%? My interview is in montreal.

Read up on experiences for the consulate in Canada that you will interview through. Learn if they are 'strict' regarding 125% and whether or not they give any weight to assets held by the intending immigrant.

Your intentions to work ASAP in the US are of no consequence. If you had a firm job offer in hand with a firm start date, that could likely be used. But that scenario is nearly impossible for a potential employee with an unknown date of entry to the US.
