It's hard to answer since we don't know who you are....the US citizen or the immigrant.

Basically the US citizen is the sponsor for an alien and fills out the I-864 Affidavit of Support.

If the USC doesn't have enough income to qualify, but has somebody living in their home (household member) that would like to contribute to the support of the alien then that person has to complete the I-864A.

So for an example Mary is a USC and her husband Joe (from Peru) is filing for AOS. Mary fills out the I-864 for Joe. Living in Mary's house is her mother who helps Mary will living expenses. Mary doesn't have enough income to qualify on her own, but Mother (household member) can count her income toward the support because she lives in and contributes to the household. Mary also has to count Mother in her household size on the I-864 in #21 g. Then on Mary's I-864 she lists mother's income under #24 b.

Now Mother (household member) has to fill out I-864A to show she agrees to let Mary use her income to support Joe. Everything in Part 1 is filled out by Mother. Part 2 is for Mary (sponsor) to promise and sign. Part 3 is for Mother to promise and sign.

Send in all the income tax returns, W2s, and proof of income for Mother clipped with the I-864A. Also send proof of Mother's US citizenship or permanent resident status.
