If you thought Sarah Palin had that "Not ready for prime time" appearance about her, you will enjoy this one.

Yeah, the mind reels that a woman who's shunned the public her entire life now wants to hold public office. Unelected. Speaking as a Democrat I'm really unhappy about this.

Yeah - not sure what the angle is there.

As for "experience" it still hasn't been determined what sort of experience one actually needs to have to become a senator, so I am curious about that.

That said - the fact that this would be an appointment rather than an election is somewhat iffy, but then its iffy regardless of whether or not Ms. Kennedy gets the senate seat.

Is that the basis for qualification in the Liberal world? Perceived experience only? Did you watch that brainless presence in the interview? I would not want this person to serve me at a checkout counter, let alone as a legislator. You know?

And yet those whom we have elected previously with mountains of experience and even perfect idiomatic wisdom continue to fail us, abuse our trust, and assume through our own stupidity that we'll be OK with yet more of the same. Yes- we definitely do deserve the politicians we elect.

Wishing you ten-fold that which you wish upon all others.

I don't know... which is why I asked the question. What is the accepted yardstick of experience for a senate position? Is there one at all?

How many senate positions are awarded on the basis of privilege, contacts in high places, or simply back room dealing (a la Blagojavich)? Its a reasonable question to ask, I think... Ms. Kennedy may well be totally inappropriate for senatorial office, but if tangible "experience" is irrelevant as far as senatorial appointments/nominations go - we may simply be looking at business as usual; and that singling out Kennedy for this sort of criticism simply belies something that has been going on for years.

you can totally tell that is edited to make it sound like she says you know a lot more then she actually does... :P

Yeah its pretty blatant. I guess comparisons to Sarah Palin would be appropriate if we were looking at something unedited and unvarnished.

I assume there is an unedited version of this interview somewhere....

Either way, the brainless "you knows" will be there for the full duration of the interview.

Speaking to the previous point, I believe senior state people should be Senators. This is one example of worthy people for the Senate. Work hard in your state, stay honest, move up.

Even though Blagojevich's choice for the Senate will probably succumb to his personal corruption, Roland Burris appears to be an honest individual for this role. Agreed that Blagojevich is corrupt, but Roland Harris is a solid statesman, deserving of the seat. I would agree with with this appointment.

Thoughts?

I don't think that repetitive speech mannerisms make her "brainless". Nervous perhaps - but if you're going to grade how clued up (or not) she is, the emphasis should surely be on what she actually says and not on how it was said.

In that respect Sarah Palin was lampooned not because she had irritating mannerisms (and she did of course), but because she flunked the interview with Catie Couric by being demonstrably unable to answer the questions she was asked.

Don't know anything about the prospective candidates - so I can't really comment.

She is incredibly boring to watch, she has no presence on a screen, her comments aren't exactly intelligent or thought provoking, and she certainly wasn't in front of Sarah Palin when looks were being given out. I'm no fan of Sarah, but I absolutely think she runs rings around Ms K. Regarding her use of the phrase "you know", it is highly irritating and if Sarah Palin had to endure a large number of people attempting to dumb her down by making fun of the way she spoke or the things she said, then Caz better have a thick skin !
