Hi,

I'm a Canadian in the middle of the K1 Visa process. I'm still awaiting my packet from the Montreal consulate and want to do as much prep work before hand as possible: seeing my doc about medical issues so I can see the certified doctor in Toronto, ordering my name checked document from the police, etc.

But Is there any prep work that my fiancee should be doing? I was wondering if all fiancees (the petitioners in the US) need to do the affidavits of support listed here:

http://travel.state.gov/visa/immigrants/info/info_3730.html

The website said not to fill out anything until we hear back that we need to fill these documents out. But I was curious if everyone requires these now, or if it is catch as catch can. Also, are there any other documents that she needs to have ready?

Any and all help is appreciated.

Thanks.

Jay

Yes the I-134 (for K1, not I-864) is needed as it is proof that the petitioner can provide financially for you so you will not become a public charge.

See the guides for what the petitioner needs to provide http://www.visajourney.com/forums/index.ph...mp;page=k1guide

Also visit your embassys website for details of documents required.

consulate specific situation... not all consulates require

moving to consulate forum

Right, all Consular officers are required to make a determination with regard to the public charge issue and my do so any way they see fit. When an "affidavit of support" for a K visa is requested it is not required the affidavit be the I-134. An attorney could draft an unique affidavit. If a specific Consulate wants to require an I-134 specifically though, they are free to do so. For example, Guangzhou will accept an non I-134 affidavit or the I-134 and sometimes actually ends up requesting nothing at all but these requests are not made until the applicant is already inside the Consulate, so it's best to avoid delay by having an I-134 and supporting documents available to respond to such a request.

Facts are cheap...knowing how to use them is precious...
