Ok, I am interested in surprising my husband with Pounded Yam and some Pepper soup. This website sells the spice for the soup and the Pounded Yam flour, but I not trusted site verified. Has anyone ordered anything from this site or have a site they recommend buying stuff from?

Yes, I would appreciate the help.

I wouldnt mind getting the real yam, closest place to me is 3 hours in Mass or 5 hours in NY.

He is already tired of American food. He enjoys them, but they are just not satisfying.

Did you try any of the african markets in Portland?? There are several in the congress street area that carry African foods. I'm not sure if they have what ur looking for, but worth a shot??

I spoke with a friend from Africa yesterday requesting information on African Yams. He stated thath the closest was Worcester MA or NY. I did not know about Powdered yam at the time. I will follow up with him. Where exactly are these african Markets. I work on Cumberland Ave.

I could take a stroll this afternoon.

Your phone is ringing.

I have not purchased anything online, but I have looked in yahoo's yellow page for some ethnic food markets. If you want to PM me your zipcode, I will see if I can find you anything. We have found pounded yam and other nigerian foods at a caribbean shop...that is where we get our fufu. Let me know if I could be any help, when my hubby got here..he ate alot of chicken stew and jollof rice :) To this day he does not really like American food. I think that I really need to learn how to cook pepper soup, egousi, bitterleaf soup, etc so that Charles can say that his wife knows how to fill his belly :)

I just printed the recipe for Jollof rice this morning. I will make it for him thsi new years. Yes my husband is being fed, but not satisfied.

I checked one of our local AFrican markets that did not have anythign to do with yam, powder or pounded.

I looked in Yahoo yellow too. We have one that I will stroll to check out. They did not answer the phone very friendly, so I though a quick stroll would be better then asking questions.

Thanks!!

Yes guys,

It is very important to learn how to cook your so's native foods. Even the fufu and certain other things you buy here n the states are not made like in africa, but they are the closest you could get u know. I am familiar with a lot of caribbean dishes and spices, so nigerian dishes became very easy for me to pick up. besides my best friend is nigerian and taught me I was also taught by his family when I stayed there, thats another way to learn if you do not have any friends who are. I am in atlanta or else I could tell you what markets i go to. you will need a lot of maggi or boullion red onions, plum tomatoes, cayenne pepper red bell peppers to include in stews /soups etc. and the list goes on. There is a website called afro foods, with yetti that shows you how to prepare some of the dishes. My experience Nigerian men love for their wifes/fiance to know how to cook their native foods, they have a very strong culture and do not care too much for american food i know some like burgers and stuff from time to time, but majority of them prefer it this way. Respect and cooking well is the key ...

Ok, spoke with brother in-law regarding the website. He stated he would go to his local African Market and purchase some pounded Yam to send to us. He is just so sweet.

I cooked some Jolof rice that would have come out right, but I left the African husband home alone to finish the last step of the African meal. My sister in-law at the last minute called to say that I had to pick my nieces up that should have been dropped off an hour ago.

All he had to to was ad the rice and vegetables to the pot when the timer went off. He created a new pot of water to cook the rice and vegetables. I had a little break down. LOL Communication and patience. He had cooked a pot of rice for the jolof rice already that day. I said honey, I cant use that rice. He wants to do everything he can to help and make my life easier. WOW I did not know these men existed. I told him that I needed to cook the rice inside the sauce I am going to make so that it absorbs the flavor and spices. Despite that already established communication, he still added the rice to a new pot of water. AAUUUGGGHHHH

Ok, I just found out that my husband never cooked. Ministers wives had always done the cooking or a close pastor/friend of his.

I did cook some beef stir fried rice for him. He said Honey; I did not know you could cook African rice. So he was very please with that meal. I am a great cook so good things are to come for him.
